Job Description

AWS DevOps / Platform Engineer / Software DeveloperWe are a developer of e-learning software and related services. We work closely with products such as Moodle, Totara and Brightspace. We also make extensive use of SugarCRM and SuiteCRM. Our customers often need us to get involved with other applications,such as Salesforce, HubSpot, and more.We need a talented DevOps to help us in these main ways:

  • Bring up and manage PHP-based applications on AWS services to support multiple deployments and scalability. We host software for a large number of clients worldwide and we need assistance in the successful deployment of these sites across multiple AWS nodes.
  • Assist with the design of AWS infrastructure / architecture to further support the development of our software solutions and ongoing & future hosting capability.
  • Monitor and generally stay well informed on AWS developments in order to be able to constantly identify and propose improved ways of working.
  • Assist with ongoing development of our CRM and Ecommerce software applications. We are experiencing a growth in sales of our software solutions to the education and training market, and so we need to increase our overall developer capacity.
Skills and experience were looking for:
  • Extensive experience setting up and configuring AWS services, managing scalable deployments, etc.
  • Strong Linux background (Ubuntu environment).
  • Working experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins and Gitlab.
  • Configuration management with Ansible, Terraform or CloudFormation.
  • Experience working on at least one monitoring stack.
  • Experience with microservices and containerization tools such as Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes, Lambda, etc.
  • Experience with other cloud providers such as Azure and Google Cloud.
From a developer perspective, we are looking for most of the following:
  • 3 or more years experience with PHP development.
  • Familiarity with object-oriented programming.
  • Experience using PHP debugging tools.
  • Web development experience including HTML, Javascript/JQuery, and CSS.
  • Experience with Rest and XML RPC APIs.
  • Experience with data management in MySQL, Postgres or other databases.
  • Ideally, some experience with compliance & regulatory requirements, such as PCI & ISO.
  • Ideally, some experience of e-learning related standards such as SCORM, IMS, etc.
  • Experience developing with open-source software such as Moodle, SugarCRM or SuiteCRM.
Since we work with government clients, it is likely you will need to undertake both UK and overseas enhanced criminal background checks periodically.
