Job Description

S&P Global Commodity Insights TheRole: Basin Research Analyst, Europe The Team: The Basins team provides critical geological information and insight which supports a variety of products within S&P Globals Commodity Insights Upstream Solutions organization. The core basins team comprises 16 experienced geoscientists andhas a global footprint with key locations in Geneva, Houston, Kuala Lumpur and Tetbury (UK). The Impact: S&P Globals Basins and E&P data is reliant on the role of the Basin Research Analyst for the provision of detailed geological information and insight. The researcher will collaborate with wider teams within Upstream Solutions to help provide industry leadingupstream intelligence, enabling the client to make critical investment decisions. Whats in it for you: You will build on your geoscience knowledge to become a regional expert on the basins and petroleum systems of Europe. You will work alongside an exciting research team comprising regional experts and experienced geoscientists and build your knowledge aroundthe wider upstream industry as it, and S&P Global, adapts and evolves with the energy transition. You will become a key contact for geological information for Europe for both internal and external clients. Responsibilities:

  • Extensive research, analysis and interpretation of information and data relating to sedimentary basins, to include close alignment with the Europe regional team
  • Compile detailed commentary on upstream and energy transition related activity, plays, petroleum systems and basin prospectivity for S&P Globals basin reports
  • Maintenance of the Iris 21 basin databases (Geological Provinces, Plays, Petroleum Systems, Stratigraphy and Bibliography) and of geological spatial layers using GIS tools
  • Conduct technical data review projects in conjunction with basin and E&P database updates
  • Participate in regional presentations to clients and collaborate with wider teams within Upstream Solutions
  • Publish paper(s) in scientific journals and/or oral presentation(s) at international conferences
What Were Looking For:
  • A Bachelors degree in a Geoscience-related subject is essential. Post-graduate geoscience qualification preferred.
  • Strong industry or academic geoscience background or experience with excellent knowledge of petroleum systems and plays
  • 3+ years of oil and gas industry experience is favorable
  • Experience with GIS tools such as ESRI ArcMap
  • Experience with large datasets, data management systems and data analysis software (Excel, PowerBI, Access etc.) in addition to knowledge of programming languages such as DAX, SQL and Python.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with fluent spoken and written English. Additional languages will be considered favorably
  • Ability to excel both individually and as part of the team, personally driving strong, collaborative relationships across the basins and wider regional teams
  • Self-starter, enthusiastic, resourceful, and independent thinker that is detail oriented.
