Surgical Fellow in Patient Safety and Surgical ResearchSomerset NHS foundation Trust invites applicants to apply for this Surgical Fellow in Patient Safety and Surgical Research post depending on the interests of the candidate based at Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton. This post is best suited for an individual who has completed CT or equivalent and wishes to enhance their surgical experience and portfolio prior to ST application. The post is linked to the theatre simulation team who run in house “Train The Trainers” course for new members of the simulation faculty, and/or linked to the surgical research team which will involve training in recruiting to randomized control trials, basic research principles and the opportunity to work on local and national projects with a view to produce peer reviewed publications.The post holder will have access to elective general surgical lists and clinics and join the 10 core training level doctors on the on call rota. The surgical department includes 4 General Surgery operating theatres with one dedicated emergency theatre plus a Day Surgical Unit with 4 theatres. There is a 12 bedded ITU and a 6 bedded HDU along with 3 inpatient surgical wards There are 8 Lower GI Consultants, 5 Upper GI Consultants, 6 Vascular Consultants, 2 Oncoplastic Breast Surgeons and 6 Urology Consultants, as well as several Associate Specialists and Nurse Specialists.About the TrustSomerset NHS Foundation Trust is the first NHS trust on the English mainland to provide community, mental health and acute hospital services.
