As a Support Worker you’ll be joining a fantastic team committed to empowering those with challenging behaviours and/or mental illness. It’s so important for us to make a difference to peoples lives, support and encourage their independence and enable them to lead fulfilling lifestyles. It’s what we do best. Often our customers require two to one care, so you will work alongside your colleagues to provide continuity in care that supports their overall wellbeing. We are looking for individuals who are calm, gentle, proactive, flexible and resilient with experience of working with people with Autism/severe learning disabilities or those with limited communication skills. BSL level 1 would be desirable but training will be provided for the right people. A little about the brother…. X is a young man with a learning disability and who will display some challenging behaviours, living in his family home who is looking for support to access the community and enjoy being active. He loves to go for walks in the countryside, go to the seaside and spend time on the beach in the fresh air, go swimming or try new energetic activities. He does not like household tasks, cooking or craft activities finding these boring. Are you an outdoor person who likes the fresh air come rain or shine, enjoys getting wet in the rain and can work as a team member to support X to get out and about A little about the sister…..Y is a young lady with a learning disability who is currently living at home with her family. She loves all animals and anything to do with animals especially dogs, cats and horses. Enjoys helping out around the home doing household chores with support, likes planning meals and then cooking them for the family, again with support. Y would like a support team who could support her to find outlets for her interests learn new skills and see new sites. At times Y can become very anxious often turning her anxieties upon herself and at these times Y needs staff who are able to remain calm, supportive and in control to help Y return to the task or activity at hand. As you can see X and Y have very different needs and require a different approach in the support they receive. We are looking to recruit a team based on their individual needs however there is an expectation for you to work with both X and Y so it is vital you have a good understanding of both siblings. We are looking for staff committed to working with these young people in the long term, who are team players and used to working with open and honest lines of communication.
