Job Description

My Taunton based client is currently recruiting for a Network Engineer to be based on site 3 days a week. Due to an increased volume of work, you will be required to be involved in a lot of hands-on work namely working on Cisco/Fortinet switching, Wireless(Wi-Fi) management and troubleshooting.Role: Network Engineer Rate: £300 - £375 per day (inside IR35) Start: January 2023Location: Taunton3 days a weekDuration: 6 months initiallychange of perm employment thereafter. What youll do:

  • Youll manage in-life service requests and incidents, detail and implement customer requested changes and acting as an escalation for both First- and Second-Line support teams.
  • Youll work closely with your colleagues, being a positive communicator and a proactive team member, whilst enhancing the overall team output and ensuring the successful handover of secure, resilient and high performing network services.
  • Youll also closely with our Operations teams to ensure they have the tools, knowledge and support necessary to operate and manage performance on our network.
  • Youll provide onsite and remote support to our technical teams who have critical maintenance and development programs across all tiers of the infrastructure.
  • Youll work with both technical and non-technical staff
  • Youll support, maintain and assist project deployments
  • Youll work both independently and as part of a team to answer technical queries, urgently analyse technical issues and address level 3 escalations.
  • Youll assist in the design, implementation, and support of network solutions.
This can involve any or all the following:
  • Switching/ and Routing technologies.
    • Firewall technologies.
    • Load Balancing Technologies.
  • Utilise a work smart mentality: Automate where applicable and/or improve procedures.
  • Review, update and create documentation including network diagrams, technical documents etc.
Your skills and experienceShould have
  • Proven in a 3rd Line Network Engineer role or similar within an ISP/Comms environment.
  • Background in the ISP, telecoms industry or similar, have excellent knowledge of ISP routing protocols and platforms, such as BGP, ISIS, OSPF, MPLS etc.
  • CCNA or similar, with strong MPLS / BGP / OSPF skills and high levels of IP literacy.
  • Hands on experience with Firewalls, preferably FortiGates, Cisco/Fortinet switching, Wireless (Wi-Fi) management and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with Fortinet WLC, WLM, Authenticator and FortiManager.
  • Commercial awareness, attention to detail and collaborative approach.
  • Troubleshoot affectively by defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts and drawing valid conclusions
Nice to have
  • Cisco service provider qualifications (CCNA-SP, CCNP-SP).
  • Implementing wireless solutions (Fortinet).
  • ITIL Foundation.
  • Experience with scripting or automation of network systems.
  • Ability to write and present affectively before groups of colleagues up to C level, vendors, and customers.
