Job Description

Lead Systems AdministratorTaunton£42507 - £45571OverviewThe post-holder will work with the Technical Systems Manager, Head of Technical Operations and Enterprise Architecture Team to carry out the defined strategic roadmap to support the operations division and ensure that the strategy and technology used within the business is consistent and meets the business needs. They will identify and recommend activities to meet the strategic business requirements as well as activities to make recommendations on the use and development of these platforms to further improve and enhance the use across the organisation and ensure well designed and highly available platforms.The post holder will be part of a team providing 24*7 cover through an on-call rota and will be required to provide on-call cover outside normal working hours in accordance with the rota.A key objective of this job is to ensure that system deployments, builds, design, and associated infrastructure and environments (including development, test and production environments), conform to quality assurance, security and system-specific requirements, and meet service level agreements for availability and performance, as well as adhering to the technical strategy and support the safety systems.*System administration (25%) - Day-to-day administration of the production and other systems, including monitoring of system health and identification of technical debt.*System support (25%) - Liaise with other departments as necessary to implement required on-premise and cloud infrastructure changes and support ongoing changes to environments. Act as third-line support to respond to incidents reported by users of the system. Support for production systems may require you to be on call at times to respond to incidents.*System maintenance (10%) - Maintain the Continuous Deployment code base and system automated builds, to ensure that build, deployment and testing of all system components is reproducible through automated processes.*System reporting (10%) - Including reporting of running costs for environments, and taking responsibility for ongoing improvements to reporting mechanisms.*System releases (10%) - Administer the release process, including reporting on releases to the Product Owner and Programme Management.*Scheduled infrastructure maintenance (15%) - Routine application of updates and patches to servers at times of low demand. This will usually be carried out outside of standard working hours.*Procurement (5%) - Manage the process of procurement for infrastructure and services required for continued development and operation of systems and environments.*Teamwork (100% - In parallel) - At all times, work closely with the Technical Systems team to ensure that all decisions, actions and activities are in synergy with the teams roadmap and there are no gaps in strategy and process.Short List criteria*Experience in providing technical leadership within a team.*Experience with detailed troubleshooting and application debugging.*Enterprise level experience in Microsoft Server 2016 and 2019 technology, including Hyper-V and storage spaces direct.Essential:*Have experience of leadership and staff development in a technical/support team environment). Experience of directing others to undertake tasks.*Have excellent written and oral communication skills to produce reports and give presentations at an organisation wide level*Strong communications skills and the ability to present to all staff at the appropriate level*Report and documentation skills to set out information in a concise and logical manner*Planning and organisational skills to effectively deliver requirements*Experienced in use and administration of the Windows Server Operating System.*Proficiency in the use of Powershell as an infrastructure automation tool.*Familiarity with administration of cloud Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) self-service environments.*Extensive knowledge of IT security best practice, with particular emphasis on MOD standards and accreditation process.*Experience of Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery within an Agile development team.*Experience of administering network security including configuring firewalls, Kerberos and LDAP.*Experience using Microsoft Azure.*Experience using AWS.Desirable:*Familiar with business continuity concepts such as the methods and techniques for risk management, business impact analysis, countermeasures and contingency arrangements relating to the serious disruption of IT services.*Have experience of providing quality / technical assurance within complex development projects.*Experience with networking.*Experience with security technology, firewalls etc.*Experience with Citrix*Experience with operational monitoring platformsCertes Computing (and all of its subsidiary companies) is committed to promoting equality and diversity in its business operations.
