SOMERSET NHS FOUNDATION TRUSTMUSGROVE PARK HOSPITALCONSULTANT GENERAL SURGEON WITH AN INTEREST IN COLORECTAL SURGERYApplications are invited for a substantive General Surgeon with a specialist interest in Colorectal Surgery. This post will form part of the team delivering emergency general surgery, 2 weeks of ambulatory emergency care, 1 week of on call, 6 weeks elective colorectal service and 1 week off (in addition to the annual leave allowance) within a 12 week cycle.The successful applicant will support and develop the new ambulatory emergency general surgery service. The post holder will provide the 6 weeks of elective care as part of the Colorectal Surgery team and will join a team of 8 consultants, 3 Associate Specialist Doctors, 2 Specialist Registrars, 2 CT’s and 3 F1’s. The team is also well supported by nurse specialists and a highly motivated inpatient ward nursing team.Applicants will be expected to have extensive clinical experience in general surgery and have demonstrated an ability to perform colorectal surgery. It would be desirable for candidates to have gained experience working at consultant level. The appointee will take part in the general surgical on-call rota (there is a separate regional vascular rota delivered at Musgrove).Musgrove Park Hospital is a 750 bed District General Hospital serving West Somerset. It is a dynamic and rapidly developing hospital, with a recently completed Jubilee Building housing the general surgical wards and plans for new theatre and critical care facilities. We are a Foundation Trust and will be looking for the appointee to work with the Trust to develop the service and the Trust. The Trust has an excellent Teaching Academy and Postgraduate Centre and its own Research & Development Support Unit.The Hospital is a busy District General Hospital situated in the south-west of England in the county town of Taunton just off the M5 motorway 37 miles north of Exeter, 48 miles south of Bristol. Taunton lies in a vale surrounded by designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. There is an excellent choice of schools both in the private and state sectors.
