  • Manage, with the aid of the transport team, the day to day operation of the collection operations, ensuring that all Health and Safety, Road Transport, Environmental, Employment and other applicable legislation is adhered to.
  • Plan and control the fleet operations ensuring the co-operation and co-ordination of all required activities to maximise efficiencys and profitability
  • To allocate and control vehicles including subcontractors efficiently to meet the operational requirements and ensure that the level of resources are adequate to meet day to day requirements.
  • To ensure, through constant review, a cost effective, quality service is carried out identifying opportunities for business growth.
  • Be available and on call for all emergencies relevant to this role.#
  • Compilation of budgets, maximising revenue, controlling costs, forecasting and variance explanation.
  • Ensure the effective utilisation of both mechanical and human resources, in performing the services. The delivery of a succession plan to ensure continuity at the site and provide Personal Development Plans for individuals with a natural talent having been identified
  • To ensure direct reports are fully compliant with all company policies and procedures, and where failings occur to take appropriate action in consultation with the Human Resources department.
  • Monitor the operational and budgetary performance of the profit centre and report variances, recommending corrective actions as required.
  • To liaise closely with the Head of Collections and produce financial and other information to produce monthly profit and loss accounts and the accurate forecasting of site performance on a defined regular basis.
  • Adhere to financial procedures, particularly when setting up customers accounts, banking cash, completing ticket entry and checking authorising for invoicing. Ensure disposal tickets are accurately entered on the system and purchase order accruals are accurately maintained.
  • Liaise with the Sales and Account Development teams to provide information and costing for new and existing work. The targeting of sales development areas to maximise efficiencys for the fleet.
  • The compilation of justifications for capital expenditure and maintain the profit centres asset register. The management of bin stocks and the vehicle fleet to ensure 100% service levels, first time, on time, is achieved at the most cost-efficient level.
  • Ensure the customer experience is delivered to the highest, consistent standard by every employee.
  • Maintain the fleet and container stock to company and legislative standards ensuring high standards of housekeeping. Minimise loss due to repairing damage by cultivating an accident free workplace.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping for the fleet parking and container storage areas.
  • Ensure health and safety standards are in line with company requirements ensuring all company procedures are adhered to.
  • Report all incidents, accidents and complaints by the approved method taking action to prevent re occurrence.
  • Maximise, together with the transport team, the efficiency of the fleets operation and the department as a whole.

  • CPC Qualified
  • Recycling or Waste background desirable
  • Proven track record in the identification of talent and delivery of succession plans.
  • Previous experience at a Transport Manager level managing a fleet of vehicles
  • Knowledge of a P&L and accounting procedures
  • Ability to route vehicles effectively taking into account profit and productivity.
  • Resilient self-motivated and have the ability to prioritise and work to tight, often conflicting, deadlines.
  • Good Customer Service Skills
  • Good routing, logistic, administrative and clerical skills in a transport or related environment.
  • Knowledge of MS Office applications.
