Job Description

An incredible job opportunity has opened for a Biomedical Scientist to join a world leading Scientific testing company. The company is based in Cheshire and is commutable from Warrington, Manchester, Liverpool, St Helens, Runcorn. and similar locations.The job opportunityavailable within the company would starton an initial temporary basis where you would be expected to be flexible to work shifts.The vacancy for the HCPC registered biomedical scientist to work as part of a laboratory team within molecular pathology. This will include utilising molecular pathology techniques to provide a high level of diagnostic service.Main ResponsibilitiesSupervision of MLA(s) and less experienced BMS staff in the department to provide high quality molecular diagnostic service.Training of other members of staff under the supervision of senior BMS and the operational lead.Process of specimens received and to undertake the related tasks in the various sections of the laboratory, leading/reporting the interpretation of results in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).Interpretation of first line laboratory results and take appropriate actions in line with laboratory policies and procedures, including but not limited to:

  • Authorisation of results
  • Ordering relevant follow-up laboratory procedures,
  • Adding technical and approved pre-defined clinically relevant comments,
  • Referring results for clinical interpretation or opinion, informing the requestor of clinically significant result.
  • Provide approved departmental information and advice to other healthcare professionals, and to refer on to appropriate specialists requests for information out with their area of responsibility.
  • To liaise with senior BMS staff, medical and scientific staff in all matters relating to the diagnosis of infection.
  • Maintain the quality assurance procedures of the department, ensuring work towards UKAS ISO15189 standards. Measure and monitor the accuracy and imprecision of laboratory investigations using appropriate quality control procedures.
  • Key CriteriaCurrent active HCPC registration as a biomedical scientist. Evidence of CPD MSc or further qualificationUnderstanding of the fundamentals of real time PCR. Knowledge of various LIMS systems Knowledge of MGI’s, Biorad tanbeads and other PCR/extraction equipment.Experience in training a variety of staff with different qualities and experience, setting up and running molecular assays.Experience of working within a high throughput laboratory, troubleshooting, working in a UKAS accredited laboratory, stock management, procurement processes, and writing and reviewing SOP’s.Experience of working shifts To avoid missing out, apply to this job today or contact me on .
