This position is equivalent to a NHS Band 8b.Job Description

  • The post-holder will be responsible for the provision of a comprehensive, safe and effective oncology pharmacy service.
  • The post holder will be enthusiastic and motivated and will lead on all quality assurance within pharmacy.
  • The post-holder will be the Accountable Pharmacist for aseptic services, supplying a range of chemotherapy via our unlicensed units.
  • Together with the Lead QA Technician the post-holder will ensure the Quality Management System of Aseptic Services meets national and GMP standards

  • To be responsible for the daily running of the LOC aseptic pharmacy services andthe services provided therein.
  • Ensure all activities within aseptic services are undertaken in a manner that complies with all current legal and professional standards
  • To be responsible for the management and further development, of a Quality Management System (QMS) for pharmacy services.
  • To be responsible for and participate in relevant document control and policy writing  Validate all requests for new aseptically prepared drugs on the Gravimetric System BD-CATO according to the GAMP-5 framework.
  • Continue to improve the aseptic pharmacy service according to the latest GMP/MHRA guidance including strict adherence to the latest edition of The RPS Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services: Standards.
  • Coordinate the verification of raw materials on the gravimetric system BD-CATO and pre-packing/over-labelling of medications service.
  • Train rotational pharmacists and technicians in the production unit and act as a tutor for Final Releasing Courses for Technicians in Aseptics.
Skills & Experience
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
  • Additional post graduate clinical qualifications e.g. Diploma in Pharmacy Practice and Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance
  • Significant hospital experience, including experience in the relevant clinical areas. Proven expert clinical and pharmaceutical knowledge
  • Experience of working with Information systems and electronic prescribing systems
  • Extensive experience of working within a licensed aseptic unit is desirable.
  • Experience of working in an aseptic unit with proven track records of validation and service improvement is necessary.
