Job Description

My client are looking to recruit a pivotal member of the team focussing on and leading technical development & product development growth within nano materials, composites, inks, coatings. This role will manage and be accountable for the technical deliverablesfor the company within both product & process development projects.Technical Manager Position Overview

  • Engagement with the composites, inks and ceramics teams in. This may include visits to project stakeholders or partners in order to provide the main point of contact for enquiries and opportunities relating to the site, providing a bridge between commercialengagements and the relevant technical teams.
  • Project management of commercial and grant funded projects, as well as internal technical work, responsible for planning, resourcing, delivering and reporting project work. This will require management of multiple & complex commercial projects to tighttimescales.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that all activities undertaken on site are done so to strict health and safety requirements.
  • Develop, manage and maintain a database of relevant material and case studies relevant to specific nanomaterials, as a resource for staff, sister companies and clients.
  • Provide chemistry and materials knowledge for the development of Nano enhanced products, ensuring commercial viability.
  • Identify, develop and communicate best practice across the companies activities, working particularly closely with other managers and the SHEQ manager.
  • Working closely with the engineering team, assist in identifying capital equipment including management of procurement processes and capital expenditure proposals as appropriate.
  • Respond to opportunities involving commercial engagements in a timely and professional manner, at all times working to ensure the reputation is maintained.
  • Responsibility for technical road map for process and product development, maintaining a focus on commercial revenue for the UK businesses.
  • Identifying R&D grant programs of work and assisting in the development of grant proposals.
  • Technical leadership for product development through technology readiness levels
  • Engaged in commercial discussions with key customers, assist in the delivery of technical specifications and project/product scopes.
  • Responsible for leading technical meetings and reporting to operations director key KPIs measuring performance of technical teams.
Technical Manager Position Requirements
  • Educated to degree level in a science (materials or chemistry) or engineering discipline, or equivalent industrial experience, with evidence of progressive professional development
  • A strong scientific or engineering background and knowledge of the application of materials (Nano materials), inks or composites
  • Experience of leadership in a technical environment
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, both in person and in writing, and the ability to manage both scientific and commercial issues authoritatively
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex technological aspects of science and engineering internally and to external stakeholders
  • Proven experience of project management including the ability to plan, organise, co-ordinate and execute projects to ensure production of the agreed deliverables to the project plan
  • Experience of managing high value projects and/or contracts with multiple partners in a technical environment within budget
  • Ability and motivation to set goals and meet targets, working across a broad range of industrial sectors
  • Capacity to innovate, identify opportunities and deliver change within a technical environment
  • Ability and credibility to represent the company externally to large, influential commercial
