Linux Administrator x2 - Swansea - £32k - £38k Per Annum 12M FTC An institution within the Higher Education sector is seeking an experienced Senior Systems Administrator to join a growing team within their Data Science department. The Role This position will be responsible for the administration and management of services in relation to the Secure Electronic Research Platform. This will involve working closely with all management functions within the technical team who develop and maintain a range of software applications to support the collection, validation and transportation of research data. Responsibilities * You will support infrastructure facilities, and associated storage infrastructure to specifications and standards necessary * You will be managing Linux systems in an enterprise environment using automation tools such as SCCM, PowerShell and Ansible * You will be undertaking the management of the physical and virtualised environment (VMware) * You will lead on the implementation of the security strategy of the server and desktop infrastructure, ensuring compliance with ISO27001 * You will manage end user accounts, permissions, access rights, and storage allocations in accordance with best practices and policy * You will manage the Archive and Disaster Recovery approach for the department * You will identify, schedule, and perform software and hardware upgrades, patches and reconfigurations Experience Required * Experience of working as part of a highly skilled technical team * Experience of planning, developing, testing, documenting and implementing IT systems. * Excellent general IT and database management skills * Experience of automating IT services using Ansible or PowerShell. * Experience of one or more of the following: DB2/MSSQL/MySQL/PostgreSQL/Hadoop * Excellent organisational skill * Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) Desirable * Experience of working with a range of stakeholders (customers, vendors, partners and collaborators) across industrial and academic settings * Ability to author technical documentation.
