We work to ensure their voices are heard, and campaign to bring lasting change to theirlives.About the Role:Here at Swansea Young Families Supporting People, we provide housing related support to parents aged between 16 and 25 years old. The project helps vulnerable young parents make a start on living independently as a family. We help them set up home, developthe skills of managing a tenancy, parenting and life skills. The advice and guidance we offer helpsyoung families develop practical skills to manage their tenancy, avoid debt, learn to budget and everything in between. In this role, you really are helping people achieve a safe, stable and secure home and family life.As aFamily Support Practitioner, youll be:

  • Supporting families on a 121 basis to provide housing & parenting related support, information, advice & advocacy through home visits (where/when safe do so & in line with Covid Health & Safety Regulations & Policies), working in the community, virtuallyonline and phone
  • Supportingyoung families to maximise their income in applying for entitled Welfare Benefits and Grant applications, and with increasing their skills in money management by budgeting and dealing with debt where necessary.
  • Supporting them to achieve their personal goals e.g. going back to education, gaining and sustaining employment etc.
What Youll Bring:Our job description for the Family Support Practitioner outlines the requirements of the role but the must-haves are:
  • NVQ3 Health & Social Care or appropriate equivalent qualification or already be working towards this
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt your approach
  • The ability to build relationships at all levels across multiple agencies and partners
  • An understanding of the issues faced by young parents and the ability to engage with them and build trust
  • The job requires the ability to travel according to the needs of the job, with reasonable adjustments, if required, according to the Equality Act
  • A knowledge and understanding of working with housing, welfare benefits, debt and parenting related issue
