Job Description

We are actively seeking an enthusiastic Academic SkillsLecturer to become an integral part of our dynamic team in Swansea.In this role, youll be developing and delivering engaging classes focused on academic, research, and communication skills. Youll create inclusive course materials, use interactive teaching techniques to foster critical thinking, and provide academic supportthrough tutorials, seminars, and workshops. Responsibilities also include designing assessments, academic administration tasks, contributing to curriculum development, and participating in departmental meetings. Additionally, youll play a vital role in studentretention and progression initiatives while staying updated on advancements in higher education and digital learning technologies through continuous professional development.Hours of Work: The post is fixed term, flexible hours for two semesters, from January –August 2024Salary: £36.50 - £45 per teaching hour depending on experience (plus meeting rate and marking rate for examinations)Academic Skills Lecturer Requirements:

  • Teaching academic skills including academic writing, referencing, verbal communication, critical thinking, time management and research techniques
  • Teaching experience at FE / HE level
  • Developing teaching and learning materials
  • Writing and moderating assessments
  • Proven experience of working effectively across academic and professional services teams
  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • A teaching qualification would be advantageous
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the field
  • Excellent academic administration and time management skills
  • Ability to use own initiative but to also know when to escalate issues/situations
  • Strong communication skills and a passion for teaching
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a team-oriented environment

  • Experience of teaching international students
  • Supporting learning / teaching with a widening access agenda
