Job Description

A respected, growing and established niche commercial insurance company who pride themselves on their staff and the service provided to customers are looking to recruit a Schemes Assistant Underwriter to join their team due to business growth.The position of Schemes Assistant Underwriter will require the successful candidate to join an existing team in Sutton to work with the underwriting team to check all quotations and renewals before they are provided to a customer. This role would suit someone who has built up some good knowledge throughout their career to date but is now looking for the next step. Our client is looking for an individual with previous commercial broking or underwriting experience.With current growth plans, this is an exciting role for the right person, with plenty of opportunity to get involved in different classes of business and different scheme products.What will your working week be like, but not limited to

  • Deputise for the Underwriter by assisting staff and providing technical support and guidance
  • Assist the Underwriter with development of new schemes
  • Act as a technical referral point for more junior staff and provide coaching where necessary
  • Assist in the underwriting of scheme business in accordance with the relevant binding authorities
  • Check new business quotations to ensure they are underwritten within the terms of the relevant binding authorities
    • Who will suit this roleCandidates will be expected to have started their insurance qualifications and be willing to continue these with full support provided.
  • A minimum 2 years Commercial Insurance Underwriting experience, from an Insurer, MGA or Insurance Broker
  • Relevant technical experience
  • Insurance part or full Qualified
  • Strong IT skills (Experience with OpenGI System is an advantage)
  • Strong communication skills, confident to build relationships with brokers and clients
  • Strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Numerical aptitude, confident to apply rating and terms
  • The ability to think outside the box and `trade’ in respect of the right risk

    • What do you get in return
  • £22,000 - £28,000
  • 28 days holiday (including bank holidays) increasing by 1 day per year to a maximum of 33 days

  • Flexitime System - up to 10 "flex" days per year
  • Office hours are 8am to 6pm with 7 hour shifts + 1 hour for lunch between these hours (8-4 / 9-5 / 10-6) on a rota basis
