Job Description

The starting salary for this role is £27,991 per annumand is based on a 36working hour week.As a Personal Coach you will provide information, advice and guidance to vulnerable young people in Surrey to enable them to identify an appropriate education, training or employment destination after leaving Year 11.Working as part of the Year 11/12 Transition Service you will support young people at risk of becoming NEET (not in employment, education or training) to identify progress to an appropriate post-16 destination. This will involve liaising with parents/carers, schools, further education and training providers, employers and other relevant professionals. You will be responsible for managing a caseload of young people, recording interventions and reporting on progress.Working closely with school staff to identify needs and barriers to progression, you will use you own drive and initiative to develop strategies to engage and motivate young people and be prepared to challenge attitudes which may impact successful transition.You will need an understanding of the further education and training landscape and local labour market and will be responsible for advocating on behalf of young people with regards to their education, training or employment status. You will be comfortable using action plans, skills assessment tools and aptitude tests to enable progress towards goals.To be shortlisted to interview for this position, your application will clearly evidence:

  • A good standard of education and excellent communication skills, both verbal and written as you will need to be comfortable and confident communicating with parents and carers, young people and professionals
  • Relevant experience in this area and evidence of recent career development
  • Experience of delivering careers information, advice and guidance, with a good knowledge of Raising Participation Age legislation
  • Experience of working with parents and carers, young people and families
