Job Description

VelocityUK are urgently recruiting for an experienced Workshop Supervisor for their machine build, repair and servicing workshop:The RoleThrough the supervision and deployment of Workshop Technicians ensure the timely maintenance and/or refurbishment of Company and client machines; build new machines, plan, co-ordinate and supervise the daily running of the workshop facility and maintenanceof Velocity site.Work alongside Fleet Manager and Production Operations Manager to co-ordinate business requirements on a daily/weekly basis.Responsibilities

  • Your main responsibility will be to ensure the safe and efficient running of the workshop
  • You will manage, supervise and motivate a team of Fitters & Technicians
  • You will delegate duties and responsibilities appropriately to electrical, mechanical, fabrication, fleet maintenance and Stores personnel.
  • Ensuring that health and safety guidelines are followed by Workshop personnel (both on and off site), and by any visitors within the workshop facility/yards
  • Manage the servicing, maintenance and repair of Velocity machines (Velocity & client owned both UK and overseas) to reduce machine downtime and minimise cost ensuing sufficient out of hours cover is available
  • Achieve cost savings where possible without delaying delivery and reducing quality
  • Ensure the use of the workshop resources is cost effective
  • Making sure that works are completed on time and are of good quality
  • Monitoring of supplier effectiveness
  • Setting and monitoring the quality standards
  • Ensure all systems and procedures are followed
  • Co-ordination of machine production processes and adjusting schedules as needed
  • Forward planning and recruitment of additional personnel through busy periods
  • Development of staff and continual improvement of workshop processes
  • Investigation of incidents and accidents
  • Review workshop time sheets and clocking in cards for completeness and accuracy
  • Carrying out audits on workshop personnel, processes and procedures
  • Ensuring site remains clean, tidy and organised
  • Being responsible for the selection and maintenance of workshop equipment
  • Undertake other additional duties as may be reasonably necessary related to the role.

Skills and Experience Required
  • Time served mechanical or electrical fitter or equivalent
  • Experience in a similar supervisory role
  • Strong and motivational leader able to make decisions and deputise for line manager
  • Experience assembling and maintaining machinery
  • A good understanding of workshop machinery and statutory requirements for site and equipment maintenance
  • Health and Safety Qualification
  • Ability to carry out risk assessments
  • Awareness of quality management and consistency of products and services
  • Awareness of Lean manufacturing principals advantageous
  • Experienced in preventative and corrective maintenance
  • A general knowledge of stores, fabrication, painting, mechanical and electrical assembly and commissioning of machinery
  • A strong working knowledge of Velocity Patching Machinery or similar plant or equipment
  • Experience working on small diesel and petrol engines, High Volume Blowers, Hydraulic systems, Pneumatic systems and pressure vessels and Heavy goods vehicles.
  • Able to read and understand technical reports, technical Instructions and Engineering drawings
  • Ability to work alongside shopfloor and office staff
  • Full UK Driving licence
  • Familiar with plant and machinery being used on public highways
  • Proficient in use of MS Office including Word, Excel, and Access
