Spray Painting Operative

Job Description

We are currently working with an automotive manufacturer in Sunderland area who is currently looking to appoint a spray painting/finesseoperative to start within the next month. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a new production plant with a well established global presence.Individual Responsibilities:

  • Work with instructions and work orders from the process supervisor, assistant or lead person
  • Responsible for preparing parts and assemblies for painting & Polishing
  • Mix paint and other materials according to specification or formula
  • Ensure facility and spray painting & polishing equipment are in good working condition
  • Responsible for the identification and separation of non-conforming parts or materials and report them to supervisors
  • Utilize spray gun and apply paint in conformance with all specifications
  • Employ heat or oven paint drying techniques for special purpose finishes
  • Monitor machine gauges and equipment operation to discover defects/deviations from standards, and make necessary adjustments
  • Complete touch up and spot repair where necessary
  • Utilize solvents, polish heads, and cloths for cleaning sprayers and power equipment
  • Follow company requirements to select paint, and match colours of paint following specified colour charts
  • Responsible for material and minor maintenance.
  • Ensure a safe working environment and excellent housekeeping standards
  • Other duties commensurate to the role
  • Key Skills
  • BTEC Certificate/Diploma in Vehicle Technology levels 2 and 3.
  • City and Guilds Entry Level Award in Vehicle Systems and Body and Paint Maintenance.
  • City and Guilds Certificate/Diploma in Vehicle Body and Paint Operations
  • Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) awards in vehicle Body and Paint Operations (Refinishing) levels 1 to 3.
  • NESHAP (National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants)
  • Understanding of Health and Safety requirements within manufacturing
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to concentrate and coordinate tasks
  • Ability to blend paint rework methodology, polishing etc.
  • Familiar with safely handling solvents and chemicals
  • Able to blend paint, identify and correct pain defects
  • Expertise in utilizing various polishing tools, spray painting tools and equipment such as pressure pots, spray guns, hoses, nozzles, gauges, cup guns, conveyor line, paint gun cleaner unit, protective spray painting equipment, paint shakers, and high-lifts
