Fixed term opportunity until 31 March 2025Role:An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Data Insights Analyst to join to support the development of data-led products and techniques, automated where possible, the Targeting Organised Exploitation (TOEX) team, part of the North East Special Operations Unit(NERSOU). You will work with Intelligence Analysts to build enriched intelligence products to support operational decision making.The Tackling Organised Exploitation Project Team (TOEX) has been commissioned to develop a whole systems approach to improve the response to the exploitation of the vulnerable within the current National Strategic Assessment of Serious and Organised Crime,developing a model that supports an enhanced intelligence picture to inform activity; operational tasking and coordination; and capability development.Within the TOEX team, the input of the Data Insight Analyst provides something uniquely different to other intelligence teams within policing. Our operating model seeks to optimise the use of data analytics; bringing together large data sets and promotingthe automation of intelligence gathering processes. This in turn provides advanced tools to our TOEX Intelligence Analysts which enable them to work at a faster pace with much broader data sets and resources.To perform your job well, you will create auditable data products with clear provenance to the Intelligence Analysts, as well as developing automated tools which replicate the most time-consuming manual processes, commonly used within intelligence gathering.We are inviting applications from candidates with experience in the data analysis field, experience of technical platforms such as Sequel/SQL, O35 in particular Visual Basic, Power BI and MS Azure. We recognise that the knowledge and skills we are seekingare often self-taught and for that reason we are not asking for formal qualifications.If you are new to law enforcement and the world of intelligence, we will ensure that you are given a solid grounding in UK policing including introducing you to the many systems and tools, which we employ to track the activities of organised crime groups.If you have strong analytical mind set and sharp attention to detail, we would be pleased to receive your application.Principal Duties & Responsibilities:Mine data from open and closed data sources, clean and prune data to discard irrelevant information. Analyse and interpret results, translating data into valuable insights that inform tactical and strategic decision making within regional serious and organisedcrime policing.Extracting and mining data for analysis to aid in solving business problems. Manipulating data to fulfil on analytical and segmentation requests. Using Data Visualisation tools and techniques to best share data with business partners.Manage relationships with internal and external partners including Law Enforcement, Academia, Industry and partners.Maintain records in accordance with national, local, and departmental policy and procedure.Be flexible in terms of working location and be prepared to work temporarily at other locations within the region area, undertaking a similar role.Criteria:Essential1. Have an ability to manipulate data, mining and extracting key information, applying standard analytics to reveal insights, and providing meaningful data visualisations.2. Have a proficiency in advanced Excel and an ability to learn and apply coding skills (e.g. Sequel/SQL, Python, O365 in particular Visual Basic, Power BI, and MS Azure) to drive effectiveness and efficiency in service delivery.3. Experience in preparing, developing and delivering intelligence research from a wide variety of sources, to inform analytical products.4. Knowledge of relevant legislation and/or guidance for example; General Data Protection regulation, Information Sharing, Disclosure, Data Protection and RIPA.5. Be able to communicate with a range of audiences, including an ability to negotiate and influence at a senior officer level.6. An ability to disseminate the results of data analysis in briefings or presentation in a clear and concise manner.7. Good communicator with the ability to interpret and explain complex and technical issues to a non- technical audience.8. Ability to manage multiple tasks through effective time management and assessment and prioritisation of workloads.9.
