Reed are currently working with NHS Blood & Transplant services to recruit Donor Carers at NHS Donor centres throughout the UK.Giving blood saves lives, but its always in high demand. This life saving service is required 365 days a year, and their dedicated staff work day and night to process, test and distribute donated blood.Over 17,000 people in England rely on plasma medicines. They have weakened immune systems, cancers and other diseases. Over 50 different conditions can be treated with medicines made from plasma and the demand for plasma is growing every year. These plasmamedicines save and transform the lives of thousands of people every year.Can you helpNHS Blood & Transplant receive over 2 million blood donations a year, but you dont need a medical background or any qualifications to help get them. They just need your friendly, flexible approach to make volunteer donors feel welcome, at ease and valued.To work for a mobile donation site you must have a UK Driving Licence and access to a car. You must also be able to show your car insurance covers business use.The roleTheyll train you to test if someone can give blood, perform venepuncture (using needles to take blood), update records, use automated blood donation machines and give basic clinical advice and aftercare. Naturally, youll need to be comfortable with thesight of blood.Its your passion for people and reassuring nature thats important and will encourage donors to return and bring family and friends along to donate.Youll find the camaraderie in the team and sense of pride after each day is hard to beat and youll enjoy plenty of variety taking the donor through the blood collection process and using our cell separator machines.Working with a mobile donation unit, you will meet your team at the venue to start your day when you arrive. You will then travel in your own car to each donation site. Typically you will travel to between 4 to 8 donation centres per day, alongside yourteam.You will be working on a shift basis but they will let you know in advance which days and hours youll be working. The normal hours for this role are up to 8.5 hours a day. The earliest start time could be 07:00 and due to the current Pandemic circumstances,if on a late shift you would be finishing at 21:00. Weekend and bank holiday working will be required. • A salary of £10.81 per hour (PAYE, weekly)
• Shifts between 7am-9pm Monday - Sunday (2 days per week - 0.5 FTE)
• Full time training - 6 weeks
• Mileage expenses
• Contract to run until the end of Feb 2022
