Senior Engineer SF31123 Bristol or Plymouth Starting Salary: £43,445 - £48,770 About the role Have you ever wondered what it takes to support our nuclear deterrent Babcock Naval Nuclear plays a key role in the support of Royal Navy nuclear submarines throughout their life-cycle and in ensuring that submarines are ready to conduct operations at sea. We are charged with ensuring that the submarines, and the support arrangements that we and others provide, enable safe delivery of the UKs Continuous at Sea Deterrent patrols at an acceptable cost to the nation. A new team is being formed to support the Submarine Delivery Agency manage the design of a new submarine to follow on from the Astute Class. The objective of the team is to influence the design to improve the supportability and availability of the class. The team is based in Bristol and works closely with the SDA and the other industrial participants, BAE Systems and Rolls Royce. As the main provider of UK in-service submarine support Babcock have a unique perspective on the requirements and challenges of ensuring that the platforms are safe, capable and available when the Royal Navy need them. It is this position of experience and expertise that the team will exploit to ensure that this submarine is an improvement on all previous classes of UK submarine. As the early design progresses through the design decision programme Babcock are responsible for providing intelligent insight and feedback into the maintenance and sustainment of submarines and their constituent systems. This role is responsible for obtaining, curating and presenting information on the support of in-service submarines, with a particular focus on areas that have caused significant issues in the past. Information will be gathered from a number of sources and a strong understanding of the maintenance and operation of submarine systems will be required in order to interpret, analyse and communicated it in a way that can be easily understand by the design teams.
