- Research Engineer – Artificial Intelligence - £65 per hour- 6 month contract- Role based in StainesWorking for a Global Technology Research Company as a Research Engineer, the role is to conduct cutting-edge applied research on distributed artificial intelligence (AI) to develop state-of-the-art solutions for real-world large-scale problems. The prospective candidate will have the opportunity to be part of building next generation mobile devices for this globally recognisable brand. In specific, the candidate will contribute to the development and optimisation of AI systems for mobile devices. The research output will be disseminated in local and international research communities such as in research seminars, top-tier conferences and journals. We encourage enthusiastic engineers with a strong academic background and expertise in AI frameworks and tools to apply.Role and ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities:- Cutting-edge research to develop state-of-the-art solutions for real-world large-scale AI problems with commercialization goals on flagship mobile devices.- Development of high quality code with detailed documentation to support reproducible research in local and international research communities in AI.- Having technical responsibility for one or more significant sections of the assigned projects.- Transforming technical requirements into detailed system design solutions.- Publication in top-tier conferences and journals, such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, AAAI, Interspeech, CVPR, ICASSP, ACL, IEEE TPAMI, IEEE TNNLS, IEEE TSP, Information Fusion, JAIR, and JMLR.Skills and QualificationsEssential:- MSc/PhD degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline. Efficiency in elementary topics in mathematics (calculus, probability, statistics, linear algebra and optimization) and computer science (algorithms, data structures, parallel/distributed computing).- Experience in one or more general purpose programming languages including Python, Java, C and C++.- Experience in dissemination of technical and scientific results in top-tier conferences and journals in the aforementioned or related technical and scientific fields.- Familiarity with software engineering practices and tools such as Git, Agile development, etc.Additional skills – if you have any of these your application will be at the top of the list:- Experience in software libraries and toolboxes such as Tensorflow, PyTorch, SciKits, Kaldi, OpenCV and CUDA.- Experience and a proven track record in distributed learning, optimization, federated learning, continual learning, domain adaptation, and/or meta-learning.- Experience in speech processing, natural language understanding and/or signal/image processing.- Relevant work experience as an engineer or a researcher in an R&D Lab. in academy or industry.- Ability to design and execute a research agenda.
