Job Description

Position: SEN Functional SKills Tutor (Maths & English)Salary: £28,000 pro-rata term time only (£21,000 actual plus holiday pay)Reporting to: Head of Functional skillsHours: 9:00 - 16:30 (incl. 30 minute unpaid lunch break) Monday - Friday, during term times only. However the role may require the successful candidate to work flexible hours including some occasional evenings.Location: Main Road Nurseries, Stanwell Moor Road, TW19 6BS (Close to T5 Heathrow)Background to the role:Our client Green Corridor is a small, dynamic UK registered Charity, working to improve the employability of disadvantaged 16-25 year olds through their horticulture and catering programmes. They have over fifteen years of experience developing and implementing projects across West London and surrounding counties to improve local communities and the green spaces that they rely on.Green Corridors five-year strategy is to:

  • Support more disadvantaged young people especially those with special educational needs (SEN) and vulnerable adults currently not in employment, education or training (NEET) and those at risk of becoming so.
  • Provide a wider range of learning opportunities for young people who do not suit the traditional academic system and are better suited to vocational training.
  • Become financially sustainable through income diversification including new social enterprise activities for our young people.
    • Summary of the role:Our clients small, successful charity runs horticulture and catering programmes to help young people, with special educational needs and learning disabilities, to gain confidence, life skills and social support, alongside nationally recognised qualifications.Green Corridor requires the skills of an enthusiastic and reliable Functional Skills Tutor, who is able to work effectively with their learners who each have their own additional needs. The candidate they require should have experience working with young adults with Special Educational Needs, and have the ability to adapt their own teaching style to meet the needs of the learner. The role would involve teaching learners of all abilities in small groups of 3 or 4.Specific Duties & Responsibilities of the role:
  • Carry out and record initial assessments on all new learners.
  • Support learners to pass their English and Maths FS in the given time frame.
  • Upskill and hold meetings with current staff to ensure that English and Maths are embedded within all lessons and provisions.
  • Ensure the highest level of quality across all English and Maths provision.
  • Create a balance between their Horticulture/Catering lessons and their FS lessons.
  • Carry out assessments to monitor their upskill and progression.
  • To build relationships with learners and fully understand their needs, in and outside of the classroom.
  • To create, deliver and review lesson plans.

  • To be familiar with and work to all the organisations Policies and Procedures in particular the safeguarding and data protection policies.
  • To work collaboratively with all other staff members.
    • Professional Development
  • To participate in 15 hours CPD per year specific to the needs of Green Corridor.
  • To keep your own individual Professional Development Plan up to date.

  • The post holder will be required to undertake other appropriate activities related to achieving the organisations objectives, as determined by the CEO.

  • 2 years relevant experience in teaching.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to work without supervision.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Proactive, self motivated, can-do attitude.
  • IT literate: Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work dynamically and think creatively.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance.
  • Teaching Qualification - Minimum level 4 certificate in education & training.
  • Must hold A-B grade GCSE in Maths & English.
  • Must be Degree educated within their chosen field.
  • Qualified teacher status.

  • Level 3 Assessors qualification.
