Job Description

The company:

  • The company experience and expertise is in the production of plastic bags and plastic recycling, they are looking for a Machine Setter to join their team paying up to £25,000pa, attendance bonus and overtime (depending on experience).
  • Job Title:
  • Machine Setter
  • Purpose of the job:
  • The role of the Machine Setter is to ensure continuous production of paper bags and ensure that products are produced accordance with the agreed product specification criteria. To ensure that the necessary support is provided to Operations, Sales, and Purchasing Departments in servicing customer requirements and delivering excellence in product quality and service. To ensure that factory hygiene standards are maintained, and that continuous improvement becomes the norm.
  • Responsibilities:
  • Ensure that all hygiene rules and aspects for the business are followed rigorously.
  • Ensure that work wear is made available for cleaning and laundry on a weekly basis.
  • Ensure that personal hygiene is maintained throughout the production of plastic bags to ensure that the product is not compromised for contamination.
  • Ensure that ALL QC controls and inspection is conducted and recorded within the frequency.
  • Ensure that ALL paperwork issued with the Job Pack is completed and signed prior to returning the Job Pack to the QC area at the end of the production run.
  • Ensure that products are produced in accordance with the Approved Specifications and Production Standards.
  • Ensure that only the correct materials issued by the Warehouse (paper, film, adhesives, inks, cartons) and assigned for the production run are used.
  • Ensure that materials for return to the warehouse from a previous production run are in a clean and useable condition and are visually identified as to the previous production order number and traceability information.
  • Ensure that if products do not meet the Approved Specification and Production Standard, that effective corrective action is implemented and communicated to the Machine Operator.
  • To ensure that ALL paperwork provided within the Job Pack including the "Master Sample" are handled correctly at "Job Set Up". The Master Sample must not be destroyed and only used for set-up and returned to the QC Area for filing in its original condition.
  • Ensure that a FULL line clearance is conducted at Production Order changeover and that all materials, previous products, debris, dirt and tools are removed from the machine area.
  • To ensure that ALL paperwork provide within the Job Pack and "Production Standards" are collected from each area on the machine at "Line Clearance" and return to the QC Area.
  • Ensure that all adhesive delivery systems are free from debris and cured adhesive build up where applicable, but specific attention should be given to regular inspections/cleaning of the water based adhesive delivery systems.
  • Ensure that changeover times are kept to an absolute minimum based on historical machine change over information.
  • Ensure that at the end of the week (Friday last shift) the front-end adhesive delivery system is removed from the Line Machines 1 - 5, cleaned and allowed to soak in a proprietary liquid solvent (warm or cold water).
  • Ensure that all company and national Health and Safety systems are complied with and that you do not or will not present a danger to others within the work environment.
  • To assist in the support of meeting the company objectives and targets.
  • Ensure that the "Clean as you Go" philosophy is adopted and maintained at all times.
  • Ensure that the protective clothing and locker facilities are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition throughout the working shift.
  • Ensure that all personal goods and effects are placed into the "Personal Locker" provided.
  • Ensure that all applicable company procedures are followed and adhered to.
  • To ensure that continuous improvement is at the heart of everything the business undertake.
  • Experience & Skills:
  • Experience of working within the packaging industry (desirable)
  • Experience in quality inspection (desirable)
  • Experience of engineering principles and maintenance (desirable)
  • Experience of being thorough for detailed work (essential)
  • Experience BRCGS or similar (desirable).
  • Good time management.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good team player
  • Good problems solving skills.
  • A very keen eye for detail
  • Salary:
  • Up to £25,000pa, attendance bonus and overtime. Depending on experience.
