Job Description

Our client, a well-established HR and health & safety consultancy based in South Staffordshire, are looking for a Health and Safety Consultant to join their team who support SME sized businesses. This role will be predominately focused on construction clients, so experience in this sector is required, which may have been gained working with another consultancy business, servicing this market, or working as an internal advisor in a construction business.Consideration will be given to candidates who have worked in a construction role, where health and safety has been a significant element, such as a site supervisor, for example.Guidance and training will be given to allow the candidate to work with other business sectors, such as manufacturing, logistics, and engineering.A competitive starting salary of £30,000 - £35,000 depending on experience, qualifications and professional membership level.This is a full-time role which will be split 2 or 3 days per week at client’s sites and the remainder of the time working from the office or during current pandemic restrictions working from home. Please note the majority of clients will be based in Midlands area, however you must be prepared to travel outside of this if required.The successful Health and Safety Consultant will be required to:-

  • Visit clients and undertake full health and safety audits and inspections.
  • Manage own diary, keeping in regular contact with clients, answering all health and safety related queries.
  • Produce health and safety gap analysis reports, identifying areas where improvements are required and advising the client on improvement options moving forward.
  • Review the production of policies, risk assessments and method statements (RAMS).
  • Support the client with other safety related systems and processes, such as Incident investigation, RIDDOR advice, COSHH documentation and management, Workplace Transport, Asbestos Management, as examples.
  • Act as the key point of contact (competent person) for the client on any health and safety related matters.
  • The ideal Health and Safety Consultant will have:-
  • Experience in a health and safety related role.
  • Health and safety experience within a construction setting. Knowledge of CDM regulations preferred but not essential.
  • TechIOSH minimum (or hold a suitable Level 3 qualification to achieve this such as NEBSOH General Certificate, NEBOSH Construction Certificate, or NCRQ Certificate in Applied Health and Safety).
  • CSCS card.
  • Good commercial acumen.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Logical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to work using own initiative and manage own diary.
  • Good attention to detail with ability to produce high quality reports and documents.
  • An adaptable approach with ability to build and maintain strong business relationships.
  • Experience with Food Safety, Fire Safety, Asbestos Management, Acoustics and Noise would be desirable but not essential.
  • Full driving licence essential. Must have access to own vehicle but will be fully expensed by Company.
  • Flexibility to travel; a large proportion of clients are based in the Midlands and surrounding, however you must be willing to travel further if required.
  • Benefits to include:-
  • A competitive basic salary of £30,000 -£35,000 depending on qualification level and experience. Please note salary would be starting at around £30,000 for candidates at TechIOSH level, with the higher salary considered for candidates at GradIOSH or CMIOSH level.
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm.
  • Full mileage allowance leading to company car/car allowance after 6-month probationary period if preferred.
  • Professional development plan and support. Initially you will have the opportunity to shadow a more experienced Consultant before being expected to manage own client base.

  • Please note this is a PAYE employed position. You will be eligible for auto enrolment pension after qualifying period.
