Young Carer Activities CoordinatorJob descriptionAn exciting opportunity awaits for a Young Carer Activities Coordinator within a small team who is at the forefront of developing and providing support services with and for Young CarersPerson Specification

They are inviting applications from Young Carer Activities Coordinator who have the passion, skills and commitment to drive forward their plans for a Centre of excellence for Young Carers.Main Duties
  • Create/plan an activities programme which is appealing to all ages with an emphasis on having fun, enabling peer support, developing friendships and an opportunity for them to learn new skills and build on their confidence
  • Attending and hosting activities (which will be out of office hours/infrequent weekends/residential trips - approximately 3 times per year), completing risk assessments for all activities
  • Research and manage effectively a budget to provide the most cost effective activities to maximise the number of breaks we can offer our Young Carers
  • Source and apply for funding which will be used for to support the activity sessions & residential breaks, completing application forms, evaluation and monitoring reports as and when required
  • Record accurately and timely contacts and case notes
  • Work with external partner agencies, tapping into local initiatives that will enhance and widen the activities on offer for Young Carers
  • Be aware of and follow at all times, national and local policy in relation to safeguarding children, young people and adults
  • Promote the work of St Helens Young Carers serviceundertaking talks/presentations on the support offered. This may include activities such as representation at community outreach events, school assemblies, college/university open days and providing awarenesssessions to professionals
  • Contribute to the St Helens Carers Centre social media channels and newsletter distribution as required
  • Adhere to the policies and procedures of St Helens Carers Centre
  • Assist in recruiting, training and supporting a diverse group of volunteers and sessional staff
  • Ensure that appropriate levels of confidentiality and safety are maintained in all areas of work with Young Carers, sharing information in a professional manner, maintaining strict confidentiality
Scope and Limits of Authority
  • Planning and organising of workload will be done in consultation with Line Manager and team
Essential Skills
  • lead, engage and motivate groups of children & young people, including those aged 16 years +, maintaining boundaries at all times
  • be creative and imaginative when planning the activity sessions so that they are appealing to all age groups
  • plan wellbeing group sessions which help Young Carers to learn new life skills and increase their self-confidence
  • manage challenging behaviour in individuals and groups
  • communicate effectively with local agencies, businesses, community & leisure facilities to source a range of activities for Young Carers at the best possible price
  • maintain accurate and timely records and provide clear written reports
  • apply for funding, completing application forms and monitoring/evaluation reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • prioritise a workload effectively
  • Computer literate with expertise in inputting data accurately
Experience
  • Considerable experience in working front line with children and family support
  • An understanding of risk assessments which mitigate the potential risks when organising events/activities for children and Young People (Desirable)
  • A good understanding of the impact of caring responsibilities on young people
  • A good understanding of the needs of children and young people
  • Conversant with safeguarding children procedures
  • Knowledge of professional practice and of current legislation relating to young people and their families (Desirable)
Qualifications & Training
  • Relevant qualification in Social Care, Youth Work, Health or Education (Desirable)
  • Good standard of Education (5 GCSE grades A-C)
  • Training in safeguarding children (Desirable)
  • Full UK driving licence and access to own vehicle
  • Willingness to work outside of normal office hours. A requirement to work 2 late nights Mon, Tuesday, until 8pm & infrequent weekends for the residential breaks
