Job Description

We have a core opportunity for a Customs Compliance Officer to join our Customs team here at our Support Centre in Speke, Liverpool L24. The role is full time, office based and permanent.We’re looking for someone to bring strong compliance expertise and tariff knowledge to a fast-pace, FTSE 100 retailer.Primarily responsible for import and export processes, you will play a key part in ensuring ongoing regulatory compliance and provide expert knowledge, technical guidance and process support on all matters relating to compliance, and related regulations,including identification and mitigation of new or emerging compliance risk areas. In the role you will have oversight of all areas of regulatory compliance including defining, updating and maintenance of procedures throughout the organisation.Key role responsibilities include:

  • Identifying, communicating and implementing updates to import/export processes to the latest regulations.
  • Identify, and lead process improvement initiatives related to compliance processes.
  • To monitor declarations and payments to HMRC (or via service providers to HMRC) and ensure these are correct, duties and taxes are paid in full, on time and correctly, and that any interventions required by B&M Retail are made promptly.
  • Conducting internal audits on processes and systems to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Lead and develop the company to achieve and maintain AEO status.
  • To be responsible for the accurate classification of all products (new and existing) across a broad product spectrum and maintain a risk and action register flagging all compliance risks.
  • Actively promote and maintain compliance throughout the organisation.
What you’ll bring:
  • Practical hands-on experience in Customs matters, Bonded warehouse experience, submission of customs entries (various), Advanced classification knowledge, preference and trade agreement knowledge.
  • Advanced HMRC Tariff knowledge
  • Understanding of legislation & regulations
  • E2Open experience
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work individually and as part of a team.
  • Strong leadership skills, acute attention to detail and strategic high-level thinking
  • Ability to understand complex legislation and translate this into clear and specific impacts on our business.
