Music Therapist based at Mapplewell Manor, BarnsleyAvailable Hours: Permanent - Part Time - 15 hours per week. MHA is a large national charity that enables people to live later life well. Music therapy is one of the charitys initiatives to help achievethis, particularly, for people living with dementia. The MHA music therapy service, which featured in the BBC TV programme Our Dementia Choir with Vicky McClure, was developed through our PhD (Hsu, Flowerdew, Parker et al., 2015) and clinical research (Mangiacotti,Hsu, Barone et al., 2019). The service aims to enhance quality of life and help personalise care in care homes. Over the years, we have continued to engage in research for patient benefit and have ongoing collaboration with the universities in the UK and EU.The music therapy practice at MHA is evidence-based and informed by several disciplines. These include cognitive psychology, affective neuroscience, up-to-date research in dementia care (prevention, diagnosis, long-term care, end of life care and support forcarers) and the emerging theories of psychosocial interventions. Therefore, we are seeking a Music Therapist to cover an area of care homes who endeavor to upscale their knowledge and skills through our specialist training which is informed by the above disciplines.The ability to communicate effectively and work flexibly as part of the multidisciplinary team in care homes is essential.
