Based in Sheffield, Coal Pension Trustees are the in house trustee executive for The Mineworkers Pension Scheme and the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme, two very large closed Defined Benefit Schemes which have a combined membership of c180,000 members and assets under management in excess of £20bn.They are now looking to hire a Head of Secretariat who will be responsible for leading the provision of high quality Secretariat services to the Trustees of these two schemes.The responsibilities will include: ensuring effective governance is in place for the Schemes; compliance with all regulations and best practice; ensuring Trustee meetings are managed professionally; and ensuring the effective implementation of Trustee decisionsand responsibilities.Given the unique features of the Schemes including a Government Guarantee, their regulatory status and the size, and the history and demographic of the membership, the opportunities and responsibilities are both challenging and highly rewarding.The ideal candidate will be a pensions professional with excellent knowledge of Defined Benefit schemes and previous experience in providing Scheme Secretariat services - either with another in house scheme or within a consulting environment.Strong up to date knowledge of current pension legislation and market practice, with the ability to develop policy, interpret legislation or external guidance, and to understand the context of the Schemes also essential.Strong communication and relationship management skills are also essential.
