Job Description

The Opportunity:Nigel Wright Recruitment has been retained to lead the search for a Business Development Manager in the bulk materials handling and electrical / mechanical maintenance sector (hard facilities management). The Company are based in South Yorkshire and the newhire will need to be within commutable distance.Our client has traditionally serviced heavy industrial sectors such as steel and coal power and is looking to diversify its services into new sectors. There are a number of sectors that could be targeted including utilities, water discharge points, sewagehandling plants etc.The objective of this newly created hire is to bring an ambitious and proactive business development professional into the business that can open new doors to new markets and lead successful tender processes, supported by the bids and proposals function, tosecure new contracts with strong margins.This is aimed as being a succession planning hire with the potential that the successful hire could progress significantly in the coming years.Role Profile:

  • Creating a strategic plan for targeting new bulk materials handling and / or mechanical and electrical maintenance business in new sectors (hard facilities management).
  • Sectors could include utilities, water discharge points, sewage handling plants. Alternative potential target sectors could be in the broader industrial sector that would have a requirement for these type of services.
  • Personally undertaking targeted business development activities to bring in new contracts such as framework contracts in the utilities sector.
  • Incrementally building revenue streams that will, over time, come to represent a significant percentage of the Company turnover (currently £50m), as it moves away from some legacy industry sectors.
  • Strategically account managing new contracts and maximising revenue streams from the likes of complex framework agreements.
  • Sitting on the Company leadership team from day one (although no direct reports on day one, it is envisaged that this individual will build a new team beneath them).
  • Up to £80K basic salary + car allowance + up to 30% bonus.
Person Specification:
  • Specific industry sector experience in an area where the bulk materials handling, or mechanical and electrical maintenance services can be delivered (hard facilities management).
  • Could be from the utilities / water sector with an understanding of related frameworks.
  • The ability to successfully realise revenue from such frameworks and agreements where business levels arent guaranteed.
  • Likely to have come from an operational background and progressed into a commercial career.
  • Will have leadership experience combined with a track record of targeted new business development success.
  • Need to be commutable to South Yorkshire (offices based close to the M1).
