Job Description

Aviation Safety Ornithologist– £24,500 - £32,000 commensurate with experience –Yorkshire / Home-basedThe RoleAre you an experienced ornithologist / bird watcher seeking to transition your expertise into an exciting and dynamic industry Would you thrive in an innovative environment that merges wildlife observation with aviation safetyBirdstrike Management Ltd., a renowned global bird and wildlife consultancy service, is currently seeking a dedicated Aviation Safety Ornithologist to help us reduce birdstrike risks for the aviation industry. Were looking for an individual with sound ornithologicalskills and the drive to support a diverse range of activities in our company.This is a 1-year contract with possibility of permanency.Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake lone-working field surveys and counts of birds potentially hazardous to aviation in the vicinity of UK aerodromes.
  • Assist in delivering training courses to aerodrome personnel regarding bird identification.
  • Assess planning applications which could increase the risk of birdstrikes at aerodromes.
  • Identify bird remains and assist in data analysis and reporting of wildlife hazards on and around aerodromes.

The Person
  • Ability to liaise with colleagues, clients, and the public, and potentially present to small groups.
  • Availability to work unsociable hours (e.g. dawn/dusk) and the ability to self-manage time to complete a work program.
  • Willingness to travel to different UK locations and use suitable transport for site visits and surveys in isolated areas.
  • Proficiency in accurately identifying British bird species.
  • Competence in conducting bird surveys and accurately recording data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel for communications, basic word processing, and data logging.
Please note: Applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.
