Job Description

Are you a people person with the commitment and person-centred values to be able to make a real difference to the lives of people with a learning disability Would you enjoy working for a progressive national, charitable organisation with a strong localpresenceWe are seeking highly motivated and reliable Waking Night Support Workers for a new purpose built Supported Living Service for 10 people with a learning disability and/or autism in Manchester, located in Harpurhey. Some people will have other needssuch as mental health needs and substance misuse. The service will support people who live at the service for up to 2 years to build on their existing skills and to move on to a more independent life. The role will involve providing care, support and housingrelated support to people in a personalised and responsive manner.You will work proactively to enable people to develop their quality of life and independence and to maximize their health and wellbeing. This will include providing support to build confidenceand skills in all activities of daily living. You will enable people to establish a positive and fulfilling lifestyle, build community connections and relationships with others. You will empower individuals to make choices, enjoy opportunities for personaldevelopment and achieve their aspirations and personal goals.As a Waking Night Support Worker you must be reliable, vigilant and conscientious and able to prevent and manage incidents and respond to emergencies in a calm and timely manner. You will be responsiblefor ensuring the safety of tenants and the building overnight and managing any risks with the support of the on-call manager/Duty Manager. We can offer you 2, 3 or 4 waking nights per week, with the opportunity to undertake additional overtime if desired.Priorpaid or voluntary work experience of supporting people with a learning disability and/or autism or mental needs is useful but not essential if you have the following personal qualities and attitudes: Kindness and compassion Enthusiasm and creativity A respectfuland inclusive approach An accountable and conscientious attitude Ability to work positively in a team The courage to question and to challenge when needed Commitment to enable service users to achieve their goals Willingness to keep learning and developingyour own practiceIn your role as a Night Support Worker you will need to be able to communicate effectively with service users and colleagues and you must have a good standard of written English in order to contribute to written records. You must be able toliaise professionally with service users families and with external Council and NHS workers. The service is located close to Harpurhey District Centre, just off Rochdale Road. There are very frequent bus services to and from Manchester, Middleton, Rochdaleand Oldham (Bus no 17 and others, see GMPT website).We pride ourselves on our effective infection prevention and control (IPC) measures to prevent the transmission of Covid-19. To ensure your safety and the safety of the vulnerable people we support we willprovide you with all necessary PPE, information and training in IPC.
