Our focus is on ensuring consistent and excellent employee experience, putting our customers at the heart of everything we do.The Assistive Technology Team sits with MWPSand consists of a number of distinct functions:Education and Awareness - Engaging people across HMRC to raise awareness of accessibility and assistive technology. Promoting and delivering accessibility, using a user-centric approach in everything we do.Strategy,Compliance and Governance - Complying with standards. Collaborating and supporting various projects. Influencing commercial direction in relation to supplier and service selection.User Experience Testing - Carrying out accessibility testing for internal HMRCapplications against the accessibility spectrum (consisting of: Visual, Hearing, Motor, Speech and Cognitive).Software Training and Support - Working with users of assistive technology to ensure they get the best possible experience when using HMRC internalservices. Providing bespoke 1-2-1 training and support to users of assistive technology on multiple internal services.Our vision is for HMRC to be the exemplar for accessibility and assistive technology across all Government Departments. Accessibility and Assistive Technology are vital in making the workplace inclusive and engaging for all and empowering every individual to achieve their goals.Job descriptionYou will be part of a team ofTest Analysts, testing internal HMRC services and applications against WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) 2.1 standard. This supports HMRCs dedication to ensure positive employee experience and maximum contribution for all our colleagues, and ourobligation for accessibility compliance.This is an exciting time to join our growing team as we strive for continuous improvement and as we progress towards our ambition to deliver a more efficient process by early engagement and self service.You will workclosely with project and change colleagues and be part of highly motivated team of testers. This role provides an excellent opportunity for somebody to utilise their existing IT technical skills and knowledge around Accessibility and Assistive Technology.ResponsibilitiesSupport delivery teams to develop accessible services through consultation. Conduct accessibility testing for all assigned projects in alignment with HMRC Test Policy and Strategy and to agreed standards and timelines. Collaborate with stakeholders to definescope of testing and develop test plans. Work with HMRC assistive technology users to test hardware and software components. Use of technical tools to evaluate products. Identify and communicate issues discovered during testing to key individuals and teams.Produce high quality test reports following agreed standards . Collaborate with and provide support to test team colleagues. Work closely with colleagues to articulate the importance and benefits of accessibility testing. Deliver to high quality within timescales.Identify and communicate areas for improvement relating to process, products and documentation.Essential: Knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). Experience of assistive technologies and knowledge of how they operate. Experience of workingin a test environment. An understanding of different user needs including those who use assistive technologies or have access needs.Desirable: Good awareness of Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No.2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 Knowledgeof the Equality Act 2010. Experience of delivering to high quality within tight timescales. Pragmatic and confident when dealing with a variety of audiences and stakeholders.
