The Joint AZ-CRUK Functional Genomics Centre (FGC) will be a centre of excellence for CRISPR screening technology, cancer models and computational approaches to big data.As part of this initiative, Cancer Research UK - Therapeutic Discovery Laboratories (CRUK-TDL) is now recruiting for a laboratory-based Scientist within the CRISPR screening team. This role offers the unique opportunity to be part of an exciting team, operating at the forefront of research and technology development, gaining experience across the breadth of CRISPR screening whilst it is being applied to clinically actionable programs. You will be a strong team player with excellent communication and organisational skills who is able to work independently and collaboratively to deliver on specific project goals and deadlines.What will I be doing Responsible for the delivery of pooled CRISPR screeningWorking independently to design, develop and implement experimental plans, including: Generation of Cas9 expressing cell lines, production of pooled lentivirus libraries, optimisation of screening conditions, execution of pooled CRISPR screens, preparation of samples for NGSImplementing experimental plans over agreed timelines and to ensure that the objectives of the projects are met.Identifying and solving problems associated with experimentsWhat skills are we looking forExperienced in mammalian cell culture with excellent aseptic techniqueDemonstrable experience in molecular biology and assay development/optimisationAbility to learn quickly new techniquesPrevious experience of flow cytometry cell sortingAbility to work independently, contributing to experimental design and troubleshootingPractical experience in the field of CRISPR screening for target identification is beneficialStrong interpersonal skills with the ability to quickly build relationships and work well in a teamExperience in working with disease relevant cellular models such as organoids and/or primary immune cells would be desirable.What will I gainYoull be making a real difference to peoples lives - were the largest global Cancer Research charity.Theres plenty of career progression and training opportunities, through internal and external L&D.25, days annual leave (plus bank holidays and the ability to buy up to 5 days per annum) and 1 CRUK day.Pension (employer contributions of up to 10%), life insurance and a great benefit discount platform.If youre as ambitious as we are, join our collective force and enjoy an excellent career, as we save lives and add years.
