Job Description

operations manager sortdepartment: sort grade: khours: mon – fri 14:00 -22:30 but available to cover 12:00 – 20:30 when needed ema hub is looking for an operations managers to join the team managing dhl’s night operation. ema hub is moving towards an exciting future following the installation and transition to a new automated sorting system. we are looking for a focused individual with excellent team management skills with the ability to adapt and promote change. the prospective candidate will ideally have 5 years sort operations experience with proven team management skills. they will be a highly organised individual with excellent communication skills. health & safety will be high on their agenda as will staff engagement.the operations manager is directly responsible for one of the hubs sort departments (e.g. imports, exports, mezz, exceptions, dangerous goods). he/she will be responsible for the control of staff and freight movement into, out of and through their area of responsibility. they will manage and control performance in accordance with various operational kpis with a clear understanding of their impact upon others.key accountabilities:

  • manages and coordinates hub operational activities to ensure the safe, timely and cost effective processing of shipments.
  • supervises the timely build up and departure of material in line with vehicle schedules.
  • directs and ensures shipments are handled in accordance with established company, regulatory and airline policy & procedures - global standard operating platform (global sop) & global aviation procedure & standards (gaps).
  • clearly communicate operational, procedural and policy updates to all staff in an accurate & timely manner.
  • manage and develop a motivated workforce through timely feedback and regular one to one’s.
  • plan resource requirements in accordance to nightly and seasonal volume changes as well as business growth.
  • ensuring the correct use of sort equipment.
  • communicate with local management (network control, ramp, line haul, exports, and sort) to ensure that hub & gateway requirements are met at all times.
  • demonstrate and live respect and results behaviours.
  • demonstrate an understanding of and communicate dhl’s focus 2020 strategy.
  • promote safety first culture
  • budgetary responsibility for the area cost centre
  • requirements
  • be able to investigate health & safety, grievance and disciplinary situations.
  • be able to conduct, grievance, disciplinary and performance hearings.
  • be capable of giving developmental and motivational feedback – aid.
  • be able to manage conflict in a, confident, considered and respectful manner.
  • conduct a one to one with each individual team member every 90 days with supporting documentation.
