Job Description

Locum Democratic Services Officer – East Midlands – 3 months – Full Time – Remote Working – Up to £35 per hour UmbrellaVenn Group are working with a Local Authority based in the East Midlands seeking a Locum Democratic Services Officer to join their team for an initial contract of 3 months that will likely be extended thereafter.Position: Locum Democratic Services OfficerOrganisation: East Midlands based Local AuthorityDuration: 3 months initial contract with the likelihood of extension thereafterWorking Pattern: Full time, however part time candidates with relevant experience will be consideredWorking Arrangement: Remote working, however committee attendance is expected approximately twice a monthHourly Rate: Up to £35 per hour Umbrella, this is dependent on previous democratic services experience with Local GovernmentRequirements:To successfully carry out this role you will require prior experience acting as the Democratic Services Officer for a Local Authority, with a good working knowledge of the relevant systems and processes. Previous experience using the modern.gov system is also desired but not essential. Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To coordinate, organise and attend meetings and committees for various legal areas including but not exclusively to planning, licensing and scrutiny
  • To prepare meeting agendas ahead of relevant committee meetings
  • To take minutes during committee meetings
  • To ensure the smooth running of Member meetings and decision-making and to provide all of the necessary information needed for meetings and decision-making
  • To manage and deliver the servicing of Council, Cabinet, Committees and Sub-Committees in their decision-making processes
  • To contribute to and prepare relevant reports
  • To make sure all decisions are made in accordance with the Council framework and statutory requirements
