Job Description

Head of Transport Operations - Flexigrid Long Haul Including MarineLocation: South WestManagement of the Marine and Long Haul operations team including drivers and vehicles to maximise profit, delight customers, grow the business and ensure the business remains legally compliant and company standards are followed.Main Duties:1. To ensure that the joint operations are optimised to maximise efficiency and profits, whilst providing customer service excellence is delivered in line with customer requirements and contractual obligations.2. To ensure that all operations are managed in line with appropriate and required legislation and Greenergy standards.3. To develop strong relationships with colleagues and customers to support understanding and delivery of the business objectives.4. To own and create the annual safety and training plan with specific targets agreed with the Central Operations Manager and Head of SHEQ for Flexigrid. To develop driver training plans in line with required legislative requirements eg. CPC and licence renewal dates, still ensuring that required resource levels can be achieved as well as creating flexibility across the driver pool.5. Effectively manage the operations team to ensure that the highest standards of safety, compliance and service are met.6. To investigate and report 100% of accident and incidents in line with company procedures ensuring retaining where appropriate and reducing future risk/exposure where possible.7. To ensure that dynamic risk assessments are completed and stored as appropriate. To regularly review the dynamic risk and ship to shore assessments to ensure they are current and appropriate.8. To ensure effective communication to the drivers of information through Tool Box Talks including such areas as health and safety, future events and issues etc., ensuring 90% attendance of drivers.9. To order and monitor PPE and uniform requirements/usage within acceptable levels and costs. Ensuring that all new drivers have the required PPE and uniform prior to the start of their first shift.10. The management of driver numbers on any particular day or night, to ensure that operations can be delivered efficiently and within contractual/customer requirements. To ensure there is appropriate forward planning so that this is achieved and any risks of future gaps are identified early and addressed.11. The management of any driver attendance or performance issues within company guidelines and procedures to ensure that there is good utilisation of resource levels and availability, leading to good cost control of overtime and agency usage.12. The management of truck activity to ensure that revenue per truck per week targets are met and that unmanned vehicles are kept to the target level.13. To ensure that all drivers are inducted when they join the business including health and safety requirements, company processes and procedures and any other training they require, including ensuring required information and certificates are checked prior to offer of employment.14. To ensure that drivers are inducted at terminals to create maximum flexibility across the resource pool and appropriate forward planning to ensure that the inductions are maintained.15. To ensure that drivers are cross trained in all marine and long haul activities to maximise flexibility.16. To monitor and respond to all tachograph infringements in line with company procedures, ensuring that tacho information is downloaded and available for analysis in line with required timescales.17. To monitor, report and improve where possible, MPG per vehicle ensuring they are within agreed levels.18. To monitor and actively manage driver hours and the utilisation of hours with the agreed reference period and in line with WTD, and RTR. To ensure the best use of resources v’s time and cost.19. To work with the Fleet Engineer and suppliers of maintenance services to limit the number of VOR’s and ensure the performance of any suppliers is in line with SLA’s.Person Specification: Proven ability of working in a busy transport environment Be able to prioritise, work well under pressure and communicate effectively. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to multitask and self-motivate. Knowledge of the EU drivers hours and WTD. Must be IT literate to an intermediate standard (Excel, Word, Outlook) Able to work as a member of the team.People are key to our continuing success; we work hard to reward, develop and retain staff.
