Associate Scientist/ScientistCancer Research UKs Therapeutic Discovery LaboratoriesProtein Science and Structural Biology groupLocation: Francis Crick Institute, LondonContract: Permanent, full-time 35 hoursSalary range: £25,000 - £33,000 per annum dependant on experienceClosing date: Sunday 6th June 2021, 23:59pmCancer Research UKs Therapeutic Discovery Laboratories (CRUK-TDL) is our in-house CRUK drug discovery unit and has the principal focus of establishing and prosecuting biologically-themed multi-project alliances with industrial partners. CRUK-TDL is comprised of over 90 staff from both industrial and academic backgrounds, based at the Babraham Research Campus (Cambridge) and the Francis Crick Institute (London).We bring together the best minds in basic and clinical cancer research, the diligence and drive of pharmaceutical and biotech companies, and our in-house drug discovery and alliance management capabilities to deliver breakthrough medicines for cancer patients. Our laboratories therefore house all the necessary personnel and equipment to progress projects from initial hypothesis through to the selection of candidate drugs for regulatory development. We couple this with a deep understanding of academic and industrial drivers, enabling us to build alliances that satisfy the curiosity of basic research and the rigour of drug discovery.Why we need youWe are currently recruiting for a lab-based scientist to join our Protein Science and Structural Biology team based in London. This position will focus on the expression and purification of recombinant proteins to support our screening and crystallography campaigns. The role will give you the exciting opportunity to play an integral part in the CRUK-TDL team, working alongside our industry and academic partners to progress novel cancer targets towards patient benefit.What will I be doingMaking an impact every day by: Focussing on the expression, purification and characterisation of recombinant proteins using a range of techniques Working collaboratively within the Protein Science and Structural Biology team and interacting with multi-disciplinary research teams both within CRUK-TDL and with our external stakeholdersWhat skills are you looking forThe ideal candidate will have: BSc, MSc or PhD in biochemistry or a related science (or equivalent experience) Previous work experience within a drug discovery environment Practical experience in protein expression, purification and characterisation Strong organisational skills and attention to detail to deliver on project goals and deadlines Accurate data management and scientific record keeping Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work well in a teamWhat will I gain Youll be making a real difference to peoples lives - were the largest global Cancer Research charity Theres plenty of career progression and training opportunities, through internal and external L&D 25, days annual leave (plus bank holidays and the ability to buy up to 5 days per annum) and 1 CRUK day Pension (employer contributions of up to 12%), life insurance and a great benefit discount platform
