Job Description

The starting salary is £18,013 per annum for 36 hours per week.Surrey is a county council within a two tier local government area and is the Local Transport Authority for 1.2 million residents.As well as developing and delivering infrastructure and majorprojects the county council is involved in a variety of projects such as: transport and spatial planning, placemaking, strategic infrastructure planning, minerals and waste and development planning. We also have close links with our 11 boroughs and districts.Thepost is located in the Infrastructure and Major Projects Delivery Team which lead the Councils expertise in the delivery of major projects.The Infrastructure and Major Projects Group is responsible for the development and delivery of major infrastructureprojects and comprises through two teams that work closely together. Major Projects Team - comprising Project Managers leading the development and delivery of projects, Project Management Office (PMO) - providing project scrutiny, project management toolsand processes, reporting on project status and developing best practice.The apprentice will be based within the Major Projects Team but with an opportunity to work collaboratively with the PMO.The Post Holder will assist with specified projects to achievethe Councils goals. These projects include major highway improvements schemes, cycling and walking infrastructure, flooding schemes and electric vehicle charging point infrastructure.The post holder will need to work collaboratively with officers across theorganisation and with key partners locally. They will need to develop a broad understanding of industry best practice, the councils strategies and polices and emerging issues and challenges. They will be expected to work on specified projects under the directionof professional staff.The Strategic Investment Programme includes a diverse range of projects from traditional highway and junction improvements to placemaking schemes and environmental improvement projects.This is an intermediate role, supporting deliveryof the strategic Investment Programme, study and training designed to develop skills and abilities to achieve a Level 4 Apprenticeship as an Associate Project Manager.The role will support the vision of the council by contributing to the delivery of servicesand projects allocated and supported by a supervising manager.This position will give the role holder the opportunity to learn about project management both on the job and through formal off the job study.This post is related to developing and delivering majorinfrastructure such as improvements to highways, junctions, cycling and walking facilities, public realm/spaces and digital solution such as electric vehicle charging points. It therefore would be beneficial if the post holder has an interest and previouslystudied such measures at school/college.The role will require you to model the councils values across the service.We need the apprentice to be a team player have a mature outlook and a can do attitude. Whilst working closely with a buddy/mentor we encourageinnovative thinking and an enthusiasm for learning.The apprentice will be responsible to a Major Projects Principal Project Manager and will be required to carry out a range of duties to develop skills and confidence.To ensure that stakeholders are properlyengaged in the process, the post will involve travelling and potentially evening committee or stakeholder meetings.For more information please find the full job description below and refer to this before submitting your application.
