Job Description

About the role:We are looking for a motivated and experienced professional to join the team as an Acceleration Manager at the Carbon Trust. This exciting role offers unparalleled exposure to a diverse portfolio of leading start-up and scaleup companies and opportunities to help transform their commercialisation and growth prospects. It will also involve helping to develop and grow our acceleration proposition. The role will be based in London and will require some travel both across the UK and internationally.Innovative ventures have a vital role to play in leading the way to a low carbon economy. An important part of our mission is providing strategic advice and support to innovators and partners around the world, and we are looking to recruit an Acceleration Manager to expand the organisations breadth of experience, capabilities and networks in the delivery of best-in-class acceleration activities, with a particular focus on access to finance for the cohorts we manage.The Carbon Trust provides cutting-edge advice to governments, corporates and innovators around the world, helping them to accelerate the transition to a sustainable, low carbon economy. We work internationally to help tackle clean technology innovation challenges and bring new clean solutions to market faster, at lower cost and with more impact.About us The Carbon Trusts mission is to accelerate the move to a sustainable, low carbon economy. We are independent experts on carbon reduction and resource efficiency, who reinvest surpluses from group commercial activities into our mission.The Carbon Trust provides innovative advice to governments and businesses around the world to support the global transition to a low carbon economy. We work closely with decision makers and implementers in key institutions in the UK and across multiple emerging and developing countries on low-carbon finance, programmes, policy and technology.Main duties and responsibilities: Strengthening the Carbon Trusts access to finance capabilities to support a diverse portfolio of start-up and scaleup clean technology ventures; Managing our relationships with a diverse portfolio of start-up and scaleup clean technology ventures and a network of UK and international investors and venture finance providers; Advising portfolio companies on their development and growth - for example, by providing support on: access to finance, coaching and mentoring, market segmentation and prioritisation, sales and business planning, business models and strategy, supply chain and operations, and team development and growth; Diagnosing commercialisation gaps and key commercial and technical milestones to help identify and prioritise acceleration support; Structuring and growing acceleration programme service lines that address access to finance challenges and needs of clean technology start-ups; Project management and collaborating with partners in the delivery of multi-disciplinary net zero acceleration support projects; Developing and maintaining relationships with clients, attending and running meetings, workshops and seminars; Support in the preparation of technical bids and fee proposals for acceleration support for public and private clients; Other duties associated with the Carbon Trusts mission will be requested on an ad hoc basis.Key skills we are looking for: Excellent interpersonal, influencing, and relationship development skills to engage effectively with start-up and scaleup management teams, technologists, and their potential investors, customers and partners; Strong programme coordination and facilitation skills working across multiple stakeholder groups; Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to lead and run workshop sessions, present to small and large audiences, and write high quality reports; Ability to solve complex problems and respond to the evolving needs and requirements of clients and portfolio companies.Qualifications and experience: Essential/strongly preferred: Degree educated (or equivalent) ideally in a quantitative discipline (e.g. engineering, science, economics, finance and business administration); Experience of helping secure investment for, or investing in, early stage companies and an existing network of contacts interested in early and growth stage clean technology venture investing; Demonstrated interest in, and ideally experience of, working in a start-up or scaleup environment and/or of launching and growing new businesses; Strong experience of delivering strategy and business advisory services ideally including acceleration support in the UK and/or Europe and clean technology markets; Experience of managing multiple projects simultaneously and managing work efficiently including coordinating deliverables and meeting deadlines.Desirable: Postgraduate qualification focusing on the environment, business, economics, technology or sustainability; Experience in designing, launching and running start-up acceleration programmes with particular reference to access to finance initiatives; Market analysis, business model and proposition development experience; Knowledge/experience of clean technology sectors, including commercial innovation and the transition to a net zero economy; Knowledge/experience of commercialising products and innovations, including intellectual property issues; Robust programme and project management and development experience; Understanding of climate change and sustainability issues and the role that innovative ventures can play in accelerating progress towards climate change targets and sustainable development goals.Salary & Benefits: We offer a competitive salary and a performance-based bonus.
