Job Description

NHS Property Services have a fantastic opportunity for a Health & Safety Area Manager for the South region this role will be to manage the Southern areas of England and the applicant can be based anywhere in the South of England. The role attracts a starting salary of £51,000, with a Car Allowance, Bonus, Pension & 27 days Holiday.The Area Health & Safety Manager, whilst reporting directly to the National Health & Safety Lead - Operational Support, will have responsibility for driving and leading the Health & Safety engagement and performance across the Area assigned.Working closely with the Area senior team, the Area Health & Safety Manager will drive the implementation of the NHSPS (NHS Property Services) Health & Safety Management System, ensuring that safety accountabilities and responsibilities are clearly understoodfor all colleagues in all Functions.The Area Health & Safety Manager will develop an annual Area plan of improvement for Health & Safety performance which also considers the continual development of a positive Health & Safety Culture across all Functions.Key Responsibilities

  • Ensuring that the organisations Health & Safety management system is implemented consistently across the Area of responsibility and in line with the central expectations.
  • Contributing to the development of the NHSPS Annual Health & Safety Plan and then supporting the Area to deliver against the KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) set, ensuring all are aware of their responsibilities to achieve the goals.
  • Driving the organisations behavioural safety culture by raising awareness and leading by example. This includes leading campaigns within Area to raise awareness of safety culture and ownership.
  • Ensuring that all incidents at work are reported using the company reporting system and that responsible managers are made aware and investigate within agreed timeframes.
  • Lead on investigations, in conjunction with the operational team and any SMEs, of any lost time / RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations) reportable accident or dangerous occurrence to identify root cause and provideadvice on risk elimination or reduction actions, ensuring the report is approved and issued within the designated period.
  • Work with managers and teams to close out any actions arising from audits, investigations or inspections and maintain a record of progress and completion.
  • Ensure that the Area training requirements are provided to the National Health & Safety Lead - Operational Support to ensure sufficient provision is planned by the Health & Safety Trainers.
  • If required, support elements of the Annual Health & Safety Training Plan as requested using agreed presentations to ensure consistent messaging and delivery.
  • Chair the Area Health & Safety Forum - using the standard agreed format and record actions relating to the Area, escalating to the National Health & Safety Lead - Operational Support.
  • Prepare the Health & Safety Infographic after each Forum to agreed national format.
  • To contribute to the Area Risk Register in respect of any Health and Safety risks which are identified. Work with the area team to develop a plan for mitigation.
  • Escalate uncontrolled Health and Safety risks scoring 15 or above to the National Health & Safety Lead - Standards and Performance for consideration of inclusion on the Health & Safety Risk Register.
  • Complete planned and hoc inspections of NHS Property Services. to ensure they are working safely and in accordance with their submitted safe system of work, escalating any major non-conformances to the National Health & Safety Lead - Operational Supportsubcontractors for onward communication to Vendor Management
  • Complete ad-hoc monitoring of NHSPS colleagues or other suppliers on site to ensure they are working safely and in accordance with their submitted safe system of work, escalating any major non-conformances to the National Health & Safety Lead - OperationalSupport.
  • Demonstrate Health & Safety leadership behaviours to continually develop our Safety culture ensuring all our employees and those we serve go home safe every day.
  • Develop a performance focused culture that emphasises collaboration, accountability, and compliance obligations.
Qualifications
  • NEBOSH National Diploma Level 6 or equivalent in Occupational Health & Safety or equivalent.
  • Member of IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health).
  • Other Health & Safety Qualifications as applicable.
