Job Description

Job Title : Youth Justice OfficerLocation : SolihullHours of Work: 37 Per WeekPlease Note an Enhanced DBS with Child Barring is essential for this role.HancoxRead Recruitment are seeking a Youth Justice Worker on behalf of our client based in Solihull.They are a multi-agency partnership committed to preventing and reducing youth crime and anti-social behaviour across the borough. The Solihull Youth Justice Service is passionate about improving outcomes for young people and victims of crime and have anopportunity for a Youth Justice Officer to join their team.As a Youth Justice Officer you will play a key role in preventing and reducing youth crime and anti-social behaviour across the borough. This is an excellent opportunity for you to make a real difference to the lives of young people, families, and victims.Working collaboratively with colleagues within the Youth Justice Service, community groups, voluntary sector and local government agencies, you will have a sound understanding of risk, needs, public protection and safety and wellbeing.To be considered for this opportunity you will have a relevant professional qualification or degree (e.g. in Social Work, Probation Studies, Youth Justice Effective Practice, Youth and Community Work etc).Responsibilities

  • Supervision of young offenders and young people at risk of offending.
  • Work in partnership with the Police, Probation, Health, Courts, Education and other agencies in respect of supporting young people within the service.
  • Interviewing and assessing young people, their parents and carers using specified assessment tools.
  • Compile risk, safety and wellbeing plans to manage and safeguard young person and others.
  • Take responsibility for developing and planning a variety of individual and group programmes in order to prevent young people becoming involved in crime and to support those who have already offended.
  • Ensure programmes match the diverse needs of young people.
  • Assist in the provision of support and guidance for parents/carers.
  • To manage cases in line with National and Local Standards.
  • Prepare reports for Courts including reports for sentencing.
  • Represent the team in the Youth Court, Magistrates Court, Crown Court and at the Police Station.
  • Liaise with officials of the Court to assist in the youth justice process.
  • Prosecute breaches of Court Orders.
  • Liaise with other Youth Justice Services (YJS) and probation in the transfer/caretaking of cases
  • To act as Duty Officer for the YJS and carry out such duties as required within the role, and business requirements of the service.
Qualifications & Experience
  • A relevant professional qualification or degree e.g. in Social Work, Probation Studies, Youth and Community work, Education, Youth Justice Effective Practice or Psychology.
  • Knowledge of legislation, standards and requirements relating to Youth Justice.
  • Experience of direct work with children, young people, families and the community.
  • Experience of carrying out assessments of need and risk of young people.
  • Knowledge of restorative practice with offenders and victims.
  • Experience of working in a multiagency setting.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and use of own vehicle
  • An Enhanced DBS with Child Barring
Desirable Criteria
  • Restorative Justice Level 2 Qualification
  • Previous experience of working in a Youth Justice Team
  • Experience of Asset plus and Careworks or other Young Justice case management systems
