Job Description

JOB TITLE: LIBRARY ASSISTANTLOCATION: SOLIHULLHOURS: 37 PER WEEKPlease Note this role requires a Basic Criminal Background CheckHancoxRead Recruitment are seeking a Library Assistant on behalf of our client. As a Library Assistant, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our library and providing excellent service to library patrons. Youwill assist with various tasks, such as shelving books, assisting patrons with inquiries, and organizing library materials. The ideal candidate should have a strong passion for books, exceptional organizational skills, and a friendly demeanour.Responsibilities:

  • To provide a welcoming and efficient customer service in a frontline environment.
  • Assist customers with the full range of resources and services and respond proactively to enquiries.
  • Answer face to face, telephone and digital enquiries e.g. by email, using printed, digital and other resource formats including the internet, and referring on appropriately where required.
  • Assist customer with general ICT trouble shooting enquiries.
  • Assist customers with getting started’ using library digital resources including PC’s and Wi-Fi - e.g. logging on, using MS word, accessing the internet, or setting up an email.
  • Operate a computerised Library management system and undertake all duties associated with supporting customers with self-service technology.
  • To set up and participate in events/activities as required i.e. delivery of a Storytime or a digital drop in session.
  • To process payments and deal with enquiries connected to item sales, reservations, fines, and activity charges.
  • Shelving resources, including loading and pushing of trolleys.
  • Carryout routine stock maintenance.
  • Undertake administrative duties including the collection of statistical information.
Qualifications
  • 3 or more GCSE’s, (Grade C or above) incl. English or equivalent
  • An ICT qualification - GCSE, CLAIT, ECDL, ((G)NVQ or equivalent- or demonstrable experience in using Microsoft Office software; Email and the internet
Experience & Knowledge
  • Relevant face-to-face customer service experience e.g. retail environment, receptionist, bank, library
  • Experience of working effectively as part of a team
  • Familiar with digital technology, such as software, web based applications and social media.
