Job Description Fuel Spray Nozzle Design EngineerFull timeBirmingham/HybridAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join The Fuel Spray Nozzle (FSN) team in Control Systems in the role of a Design Engineer based in Birmingham.Control Systems leads the development of the FSN component, working closely with the aero team on the aerodynamic requirements for the component. The performance of the Combustion sub-system in meeting the overall goals on Emissions, Smoke and NOx, as wellas relight performance is significantly driven by the FSN.Expected activities include design of the FSN for rig and engine use to an aggressive schedule. This will include supporting the full project development lifecycle from conceptual development to in-service strategy. You will be expected to utilise toolssuch as Six Sigma, Lean, Robust Design and DfM/DfA to optimise the product to achieve to customer attributes such as cost, weight, performance, reliability and durability.   • Provide leadership for theteam of FSN design and project engineers and provide technical guidance and oversight of the design process. Creating, implementing and maintaining a suite of programme plans that provide comprehensive control & visibility forIntegrated Project Team (IPT) tasks
  • The research, development and delivery of components for the designated programme(s)
  • Creating test procedures, defining fixture requirements, carrying out design assurance testing, analysing data and completing test reports
  • Acting as the focal point for the IPT, monitoring programme/IPT progress, reporting to stakeholders, resolving conflicts and removing barriers for the activities for which you are responsible
  • Contributing to the risk process you will ensure all identified risks are mitigated with supporting plans to an acceptable conclusion, and will ensure all parties are supported and aware of each IPT tasks performance, including risks, and hazards and opportunities
What were looking for:
  • Qualified to degree level or equivalent in a technical discipline
  • Strong engineering background, preferably in a mechanical engineering environment, with a working knowledge or product design, manufacturing and mechanical test methods
  • Proficient in Computer Aided Design and Analysis Tools (NX9 and TeamCentre experience). This can included an appreciation of the tools and what can be achieved through them
  • Knowledge of engineering principles in terms of structural assessment, thermodynamics, applied mathematics and design
  • Experience of MatCap, MCRL and TRL activities is an advantage
