Job Description

Group Site Manager - Senior Horticulturist | Full Time | £25,560 - £30,602 per annumFTE 37 hoursOur client is a user-led registered charity and social enterprise working to make life better for disabled, elderly and vulnerable people and their carers.The team are proud to be a user-led organisation with an active membership of nearly 3,500 individuals who are heard, engaged, and represented in the organisations vision, values, and principles and in the way they co-design and deliver services to meettheir needs.Please note that this is a Fixed Term contract to 31/12/2023 with an extension subject to funding and performance.Sites are based in Smethwick, B66, Oldbury, B68, and Wednesbury WS10.Are you the right person for the job

  • Formal horticultural qualifications or equivalent evidence of training/experience in this field
  • IT literate
  • Clean driving license and the ability to travel between sites is essential
  • 4 years+ experience in the following: gardening, pruning pest and disease control, planting, irrigation, turf care, use of horticultural machinery
  • Experience in supervising and managing a horticultural team
  • Experience delivering production or related horticultural projects/sites, managing these to a very high standard (horticultural sites could include gardens, managed landscapes, food growing/productive sites)
  • Using knowledge to devise and manage maintenance programmes/ gardening activities to maintain a range of horticultural sites and developments
  • Experience in delivering health and safety plans, procedures and risk assessments
  • Experience in garden maintenance services e.g. raising small estimates, quotes/ budgeting, liaising with garden designers and contract managers replanting & installations, liaising with existing clients and bringing in new customers, managing fee proposalsand external contractors/managed works, managing and scheduling seasonal required tasks and activities for customers
What will your role as a Senior Horticulturist/Sites Manager look like
  • To manage all garden elements and facilities of the assigned IFA community, market and therapeutic garden sites including the development and management of all horticultural spaces across decorative, food growing and wildlife areas
  • To ensure all allocated sites are fully safe, managed and operational to all to support maximising inclusive opportunities which benefit disabled people and the local community
  • To manage the horticultural development staff team and supervise their daily duties and create and deliver an overarching annual sites maintenance plan and weekly/monthly schedules of work
  • To support the horticultural maintenance team to work with customers, volunteers and visitors and alongside service users (when required/instructed)
  • To provide advice, support and informed discussion and debate on community agriculture/production and therapeutic horticulture developments as required across the wider organisation and externally
  • To contribute to the identification, development and application for new and appropriate funding streams, grants and enterprising initiatives as required in order to ensure the viability of assigned sites and for the benefit of Growing Opportunities/Idealfor All as a whole
  • To work alongside the Head of Operations to support accessible garden spaces for all staff to utilise for the development and delivery of programmes and paid for provision for people in the region and to support the sustainability of the organisationand its practices (its assets/projects and services)
  • To support the Head of Operations and CEO in the implementation, delivery and management of our new garden maintenance services. This includes all aspects of the operations such as developing a customer base, quoting for jobs and delivering best practicegarden maintenance services year-round as part of our community business/social enterprise Growing Opportunities
