Job Description

Deputy Director of AdvocacyIn order to affect change on a global scale we have an exciting opportunity for Deputy Director ofAdvocacy to help deliver a goal, of a world where donkeys and mules live free from suffering and their contribution to humanity is fully valued.Position: Deputy Director of AdvocacyLocation: Devon/hybridHours: Full-time (flexible working considered)Salary: £65,000 per annumContract: PermanentStarting as soon as possibleClosing Date: 26th February 2023Please note: We reserve the right to close this vacancy before the advertised date and therefore encourage early submissions.The RoleOver 60 million working donkeys and mules are key to some of the poorest communities in the world, yet many live poor lives and millions are killed every year for the donkey skin trade in brutal, cruel and unhygienic ways. The charity want to stop the skintrade and to get working donkeys and mules the protection they deserve wherever they are.All this requires change at every level, from the UN, to governments, to industry, to vets, to donkey owners. So we are seeking an exceptional person with outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills to help make that a reality.As Deputy Director of Advocacy, you will work in partnership with the Director of Advocacy and Campaigns, the CEO and other Senior Management stakeholders to deliver the charitys new organisational strategy by developing inspiring advocacy plans and willdirectly manage the advocacy team.Your principal duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Design and implement an advocacy strategy to effect lasting change for donkeys and mules.
  • Building and developing networks of key stakeholders to achieve genuine change and lasting impact.
  • Functionally leading the international advocacy through the creation of a global advocacy strategy and in supporting international teams to deliver high quality and consistent advocacy.
  • Representing the organisation in the media and strategic high-level forums.
  • Overall responsibility for the work, financial budget and planning of the advocacy team.
About YouAs Deputy Director of Advocacy, you will have experience in a strategic advocacy leadership role and will be adept at leading teams in the development and implementation of effective advocacy strategies.You will have:
  • Experience of working in a functional, cross departmental leadership position
  • Great communications skills
  • Experience of influencing governments, intergovernmental bodies and other prominent partners
  • Experience of identifying and developing creative and engaging advocacy plans and will possess excellent writing and editorial skills.
  • Exceptional influencing and diplomacy skills, you will be able to build and maintain excellent working relationships with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience in integrating departmental work with other parts of an organisation and translating complex messages to a wide range of stakeholders including senior management and international colleagues.
