Job Description

A DAY IN THE LIFE What a normal day at work looks like for youDay to day, you’ll be accountable for:

  • Direct Line Management Responsibility for the small Transactional Finance Team which includes sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll, overheads and fixed assets..
  • Lead the month end close process for the Transactional Finance Team, including critical analysis of first draft Overheads and Balance Sheet results.
  • Ensure key monthly variances (vs forecast, budget and last year) are fully understood, reported and remedial activities actioned for overheads and People costs.
  • Responsible for aged debt collections, payment runs and supplier management.
  • Prepare, review and process monthend journals (accruals, prepayments, allocations, etc.) as appropriate, including review and sign-off of direct reports.
  • Daytoday management of the core accounting system, including implementing improvements and reducing the number of incorrectly recorded transactions.
  • Develop and provide business partnering services within the Finance Team and across the wider business.
  • Review of VAT returns before submission.
  • Review of the Fixed Asset Register.
  • Assist with the completion of year end statutory accounts and reconciliations to the management accounts
  • Lead transactional team input for the yearend audit process.
  • Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
  • Support the organisation with its strategic projects
  • Ensure the national statistics office returns are completed on time.
  • Be accountable for other ad hoc tasks required by the business
  • YOUR EXPERIENCE What you bring to the jobYour background will demonstrate:
  • At least 3 years’ post qualification within a busy finance team, ideally having managed transactional teams
  • All round strong technical accountancy experience.
  • Good stakeholder management skills and the ability to influence people inside and outside of finance.
  • Advanced system skills, including Microsoft Office, with expert level Excel skills.
  • YOUR QUALIICATIONS About your education and qualificationsYou’ll really need to know your stuff, which means you’ll be a qualified accountant (ACCA / CIMA / ACA). YOUR BUSINESS SKILLS The skills and knowledge you need to make an impact on a business levelWe’re focused on delivering our strategy, so it’s important that you have plenty of experience of accounting software (Access Dimensions is a bonus), and familiarity with the art of the possible. Experience of working finance system implementations would be an advantage.You’ll also need:
  • The temperament to manage a diverse transactional finance team within a fast paced wider finance team.
  • The skill to step back from large datasets and draw out conclusions and recommendations and then to present them as proposed actions to nonfinance colleagues.
  • An analytical approach with excellent attention to detail and an ability to establish robust processes.
  • The flexibility to take on a wide variety of adhoc tasks.
  • To be well organised with the ability to establish robust processes

  • ABOUT THE ROLE T&Cs:
  • 37.5 hours per week
  • Permanent / Full Time
  • Place of Work: Solihull Office with the opportunity to work remotely 2or 3days a week (currently WFH due to gov. guidelines)
