Job Description

  • Job Title: Democratic Services & Administrative Officer
  • Location: Shepton Mallet
  • Pay Rate: £21,020 - £22,601 (Will pay more if experienced)
  • Job Type: Initially to cover January 2022, but likely to be extended.
HRGO Recruitment are looking for a Democratic Services Officer to provide effective and efficient support to the Councils democratic, decision-making processes and to provide comprehensive and effective technical and administrative support to the widerLaw & Governance GroupIdeally you will have experience in the following:
  • To be responsible for the day-to-day management of the Committees/Meetings/project groups allocated to you including:
  • The attendance at Committees/Meetings/project groups and any associated briefings pre-agenda meetings.
  • Recording formal minutes of public meetings
  • Working with politicians
  • Working with SharePoint
  • Excellent computer skills and writing skills. Accuracy is essential.
Skills
  • Excellent customer care skills and an ability to communicate well with all stakeholders. Excellent levels of tact and diplomacy and discretion.
  • Good IT skills.
  • The ability to support members in their use and adoption of IT through the use of plain English and the preparation of simple process maps and guidance.
  • Excellent administrative and organisation skills.
  • Ability to undertake research and prepare briefings and reports.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage own work-load and respond to conflicting and multiple demands, changes in priorities and/or deadlines.
  • Resilient with the ability to work in a dynamic environment.
  • Flexible approach
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of common Microsoft Office packages (Sharepoint, Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Understanding of the work of local authorities.
  • Knowledge of committee processes.
