REED Sheffield is recruiting on behalf of a Local Authority for a Youth Justice Officer. Based in Sheffield, this is a contract until July 2021 and it is vital you will be able to hit the ground running so previous experience of Youth Justice systems and practices is essential.Your main purpose will be to:To take lead responsibility for the supervision and case management of children, young people and their families who are subject to preventative interventions, out of court disposals or community orders and custodial sentences, and who have a range of complex needs and highly challenging behaviour, and to ensure that all appropriate measures are taken to protect them from harm, and that they do not cause harm to others.Responsibilities will include:• To ensure that children and young people are effectively assessed, planned for, engaged with and suitably reviewed in a manner that enhances the likelihood of their behaviour changing.• To ensure that practice at all times is fully congruent with best practice, National Standards, legislative, safeguarding and public protection policies and requirements.• To provide written reports to Referral Order panels, Youth and Crown Courts, Child Protection conferences and other formal forums that are of a high standard and effectively convey the views of the Youth Justice Service.• To ensure that children, young people and their parents complete the sentences to which they are subject and that their orders are effectively enforced and managed in line with National Standards at all times.• To ensure that the needs of the child are understood in the context of the families in which they live, and to ensure that the needs of those families are recognised, and strategies put in place to address those needs.Please note this is not an exhaustive list and a full job description is available on request.In order to be considered for this role you must have had experience of working within the Youth Justice system, and awareness of the processes and procedures this entails. This is a very face paced and challenging yet rewarding role for the right person.
