Job Description

Technical ManagerKey DetailsWork hours: 37 hours per weekLocation: Hillsborough, SheffieldJob type: Permanent, Full-timeIndependent Forgings and Alloys (IFA) is one of the UK’s leading independent aerospace and industrial forgers. The unique feature about IFA is the combination of open and closed-die forging while also undertaking the whole production process from raw materialto the finished product in one location. Operating from a 680 000ft2 facility in Sheffield, we manufacture high-integrity, open-die and closed-die forged components in nickel alloy, titanium, stainless steel and carbon alloys for customers and tier-one supplierswithin the aerospace, nuclear, power generation, marine as well as oil and gas sector.Main Purpose of the RoleReporting to the Technical and Quality Director you will be responsible for managing, monitoring and proactively advising hot material conversion. You will also provide technical service to both external and internal customers/stakeholders in matters relatingto our products.Key Accountabilities

  • Day to day management of the technical team including metallurgists and process engineers including responsibility for health and safety of the team
  • Manage, train, monitor and develop the technical team
  • Work closely with other managers to develop plans for expansion and improved profitability of IFA
  • Make technical decisions that affect the company’s performance in liaison with other departmental managers
  • Understand, develop and train others on the technical requirements of customers and suppliers
  • Implement cost saving improvements
  • Develop improvement strategies for both products and equipment
  • Work with all other departments with regard to all technical matters
  • Represent the company at technical conferences
  • Advise commercial on technical suitability of proposed projects
  • Set, monitor and review Technical KPI’s and other metrics
  • Technical representative in daily, weekly and monthly production, improvement and quality meetings
Skills and ExperienceEssential:
  • Excellent understanding of metallurgy and material processing ideally with working knowledge of titanium.
  • Understanding of Quality procedures.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Good understanding of Inspection procedures and processes.
  • Team Player.
  • Decision making skills.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
Desirable:
  • Experience of working with titanium, nickel and iron based alloys
  • Experience of managing a team
  • Flexible and proactive approach.
  • Working knowledge of auditing procedures.
  • Good IT skills.
QualificationsEssential:
  • A graduate standard in Metallurgy, Materials Technology or a related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Good working knowledge of metal products and thermomechanical processes.
